Rugby 7s

now im no expert on rugby besides random viewings back in the day when espn2 showed every sport under the sun. and i had a rugby game for playstation.

but NBC was showing some of the 'usa sevens' tournament last weekend and i watched a few matches. was the first i had heard of '7s'. definitely lacks the hits of a regular rugby game and the scrums are even more of a formality, but the pace was good and the games went by quick with 7min halves. almost too quick! but was nice to see multiple games one after another. think they fit 4 or 5 games in a 2hr span. was somewhat enjoyable.

its going to be an olympic sport in 2016 so thats why nbc was trying to sell it.

what say you? worth watching? should/shouldnt be an olympic sport? etc.

It's a big deal here in New Zealand, and alot of kids are first introduced to this form when they begin. At least from what I have learned the year i've been living here

Its like the rugby version of 5-a-side soccer, can be quite entertaining to watch although I guess you need to have the legs of a racehorse to play it.. from the few times Ive watched the Hong Kong Sevens it seems like theres a whole lot of running involved, hence the short halves.

Yeah there is a lot of running in sevens, it is also played in the Common Wealth games already. Some people find it more entertaining because of the fasted pace I've never got into it that may be due to the lack of TV coverage over here

from what I've seen in the past in US sevens is just one guy juking once and then running for 50 yards uncontested.

yeah, there was a lot of that in the mismatch games where one team was clearly better. but the tightly contested games were pretty fun to watch and had some good plays. dunno the terminology, but direction changes, over the shoulder passes, good tackles, etc.

dunno, guess i got 5years to decide if worth watching in the olympics as i doubt there will be much coverage in the us until then.

NBC and NBCSN had these on again this weekend. First time I've really watched Rugby and I found this format really entertaining. USA/Spain was a wild finish as the Americans had to win by 14 and needed the conversion on the last play to get it.

I will definitely watch in the Olympics

I watched Australia versus Samoa (or something to a Samoan effect) on Saturday and it sure seemed like you are right on. I like watching Rugby, so that's fine, but that game was just as you said.

I'll watch it any time it's on. I don't really understand all of it, but I enjoy it.

My thoughts exactly.

I was asked to join the Rugby club in college. When my hockey coach caught wind of that, it was ended right there.

Glad it's on TV more. I'll brush up on the rules and keep watching to understand it more and more. In the mean time, damn fun stuff to watch on a weekend afternoon.
