That was an absolute beat down of the top 135lber. Broner is the real deal. Dude may be cocky at times but there is no denying he has skills. His defense is solid, not nearly as good as Floyd's, but he has more power at this stage of the game and he wants to finish his opponents. As he said he has a game plan and he goes after it.

I have no clue where Broner goes from here. He looks like a huge lightweight, he may go up to jr. welterweight where there would be some big time fights, unless Gamboa gets back in the mix.

Broner, "I don't care who I fight, they can grab that rope and hang themselves." LoL classic.

The recap of a great weekend in boxing:
*Carl Froch KO3 over Yusaf Mack
-Was never close, and Froch never allowed Mack to get into the fight, dropping him early in the first, and then finishing him off with body shots took Mack out completely. A great demolition job by Froch.
+Fallout: Well, this does setup Froch/Bute II in Canada, if Bute still wants to go through with it. Otherwise, Froch has a mandatory with Adonis Stevenson, and he's looking at rematches with Kessler and Ward, when they're done with their respective opponents.

*Jonathon Banks TKO2 over Seth Mitchell
-Mitchell looked very solid in round 1. He hammered Banks to the body, staggered him once, and was in complete control. One issue, he was making rookie mistakes with his distance. Into round 2, he comes out looking to tee off on Banks, and throws a looping right from way too far out. Banks leans back, Mitchell goes through missing, Banks fires the right hooker-cut, and Mitchell is out on his feet. Seth tried to fight back and hold, but took another two knock downs before Big Eddie stops the fight as he's falling around everywhere.
+Fallout: Huge setback for Mitchell, huge step forward for Banks. Jonathon is now looking to fight Alexander Povetkin, which would be a solid fight, IMO. He's also a mandatory now for Wlad, his trainee. Mitchell, not back to the drawing board completely. He just needs some guidance on distance, but should be able to rebound and get back on track.

*Adrien Broner TKO8 over Antonio DeMarco
-It was close in 1-3 when DeMarco was boxing effectively. He was stepping to his right and firing the left low and high. Then, for whatever reason, he stopped and decided in-fighting was going to work against Broner, which was a HUGE mistake. Broner rolled with all his shots, and those fast, thudding hands just ripped DeMarco apart. I scored a 10-8 round in there (I think it was 5 or 6), as Broner just decimated DeMarco left and right, to the same point Edwin Valero did. Late in the fight, a body-head combo had DeMarco in serious trouble and as he went to the canvas, his corner stopped the fight.
+Fallout: The real question, what's next for Broner at this weight class? He can wipe out the entire division if we wants, IMO. Miguel Vazquez doesn't have the skill or power to stop him. Richard Abril would be able to box him with for a few rounds before the power starts catching up with him (and the fight would be pretty boring until then, IMO). And Ricky Burns has yet to show a desire to leave Scotland/UK for a big fight. He, though, has the best chance of beating him out of anyone in the division. He's a silky boxer who will stick to the plan and not go away from boxing. It'd be a huge style matchup problem for Broner, and really the only guy in the division with a chance.

Broner looked HUGE for the 135 weight limit. He just eliminated the top of the division, and now has a legit title in the class. He can wipe out the division for as long as his frame will let him, or he can head north where the true paydays are against big names like Rios, Garcia, Marquez (if he doesn't hang'em up after Pacman 4), Mattyhsse and Khan.

A note on the Rios fight, it won't happen due to boxing politics. Al Haymon guides Broner, and with Rios being TR property, the fight can't be made until Bob Arum passes away.

*Brian Viloria KO10 over Hernan Marquez to unify titles
Not sure if any of you caught this, but it was a good fight. Viloria, who could be in some p4p lists these days, came out and just put a beating on Tyson Marquez, dropping him 3 times before Robert Garcia threw in the towel to save his fighter in the 10th. Viloria maybe a little fella, but man can he throw ****ing bricks in the ring.

I gurantee all of Broner's fights from round 1-3 are going to look like they did against Demarco in rounds 1-3. He feels his opponents out before he steps on the gas.

I honestly don't think Burns gives him much of a challange. He is lanky and he can box, but he has not faced near the competition or skill set Broner would bring to the table.

The Ponce De Leon fight was the best thing that could have happened to Broner. It truly made him think and become a better fighter. I beleive if they fought again Broner would wipe the floor with him.

**Its a real shame there is no fighters on the scale of Genaro Hernandez, Diego Corrales, Angel Manfredy like Floyd had or Chavez, Whitaker, Camacho that Oscar had. There has been a bunch of fighters coming up the ranks that are 25-0 or even better, but Broner is getting this hype because he is on HBO and because many top Boxing minds see something real special.

People need to remember once Floyd won his first title he defended it 5 times against names like Justin Juuko, Carlos Gerena and Gregorio Vargas. Broner should be patient at 135 clear out the division and let his body develop into a very strong 140lb frame, because 10 lbs in virtually 12 months is a huge jump.

The question heading forward is when will he get that passing of the torch fight and who will it be against? Then the Career definning fight.

The Burns fight is an interesting one.

Broner hasn't faced anyone with the pure boxing pedigree that Burns has either. Burns has a great jab, solid movement, and he throws power punches (even if they don't have crushing power, they score) upstairs and downstairs really well. He's taken down Rocky Martinez, Kevin Mitchell and Michael Katsidis on the world class level, none of which have the skills set of Broner. But, outside of Floyd, who the hell does have the style and set Broner does? Good luck finding that.

I think it'd be a very competitive fight, honestly. I don't see Burns winning it, but it will answer questions on Broner as to how he'll fair with a pure boxer and whether Broner can go a full 12 rounds with a guy who is always in great shape.

Love Broner's skills, hate his circus...Broner was great, and showed off all his skills. But then again he was pretty much doing it against a punching bag.
DeMarco couldn't have fought any worse.I guess his game plan was to put his gloves up to his chin, bend over at the waist, put his head in Broner's chest, and let Broner wail uppercuts and cracking right crosses at will.Broner beat him to the punch everytime. But there were stretches that DeMarco could have worked, and he just didn't let his hands go.He just ate punches all fight.

Actually Broner should just bypass the whole lightweight division, and go straight to Jr welter. There's nothing for him at lightweight.Burns maybe, but after him, nothing. He rehydrated to 148 against DeMarco and looked great.I'd love to see him in with the likes of Garcia,Khan,Matthyse..How about a Broner/Brandon Rios fight. If he wants respect now.He needs to go get it at 147,not 135..There nothing for him there.

Brian Viloria/Hernan Marquez fight was a war.Man Viloria is good.He throws some crisp hard punches, and works the body well.If he and Roman Gonzalez do hook up.It would be a great fight that I would hope HBO or Showtime puts on.Because it could only be one thing, and that's an all-out war...

I'm glad you brought up Roman Gonzalez, completely forgot him.

El Chocolatito and Juan Estrada had their own war on the same card as Marquez/Viloria, that ended with Gonzalez being the UD winner (and rightfully so).

There was a round of the year candidate in the fight, and it was just an all out war for the last 3/4 of the fight. Loved every second of it.

However, Hawaiian Punch has a WBO mandatory with Milan Melindo ordered up, so the colossal unification bout with El Chocolatito will have to wait for now.

Some other news:
Andre Ward vs. Kelly Pavlik done for 1/26 on HBO in LA. Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne is going to be a co-feature on that card.

There is one hang up still, Pavlik doesn't want the fight in Cali at all. But, at this point, it doesn't appear as though he's going to get his wish with that. The deal is in place, all it's waiting for is a signature from Kelly.

There may not be the competition at 135 that there is at 140, but he should stay there for atleast 2 more fights esp. because he didn't have no problem making the weight. He needs to let his body grow into higher weights and not make drastic jumps. Some guys can do it, some guys fail at doing it. Many good boxing minds feel that Floyd taking the time off after the Hotton fight was good for his body as he looked bigger and stronger at 147 than when he did after he beat Hatton.

Broner is only 23, take some defenses of the title and then move up. I would love to see him fight the guys at 140, but historically speaking he should stay at 135 unify the titles, clean out the division then go up. You talk about wanting respect now? He just jumped a weight class and beat down the recognized number 1 fighter in the division.

When many people look back 15 years from now, there will be some saying how come Broner didn't fight Burns in his prime. Trust me it will happen, they say it today about Roy Jones not fight Calzaghe in their prime or the other way around. If you unify title and clear out a division no one can say anything.

Floyd failed to do it at 140 when he was there and he gets knocked for it today. Hatton and Tszyu were at 140. At 135 he beat the king pin in Castillo, but simialr to the Broner situation now, they say Floyd avoided Stevie Johnston at 135 or 140. Unify the titles, grab the ring 135 recognition then move up, no regrets.

*My opinion on Broner vs. Rios is similar to Gatti vs. Mayweather. Rios style is tailored made for guys like Broner. Rios is not going to move he is there to be hit even though he has a rock solid chin his face can be busted up. Rios will come in and press the action but I don't think he has 1 punch KO power and for every shot he lands, he will have to take 3 in return, esp uppercuts which Alvarado was landing on Rios and Broner on Demarco. I just think it is a terrible matchup for Rios.

The guys that have the best chance to beat Floyd and Broner are hybrid boxer/brawlers or guys with such physical advatages in regards to taking them to higher weight classes, but Haymon is to smart to put his fighters at such disadvatages.

Agree completely with your take on Rios/Broner and it's comparison to Gatti/Mayweather.

Another point worth mentioning is that Rios is soft to the body, and Broner hurt DeMarco really bad with solid, ripping body shots before moving the attack upstairs. I see him not only beating Rios, but really hurting him to the body then working upstairs and REALLY beating him down. It's one thing to in-fight with another brawler like Alvarado, it's a completely different animal doing it with a guy like Broner who is faster, far better defensively, sees shots really well, and rolls even better.

Rios gets beaten worse than Floyd beat Gatti, IMO. I don't see the fight happening though. Al Haymon doesn't work with Top Rank, and Rios is all TR property. Plus, he's being positioned for a fight with Manny down the road at 147, no need risking that 0 to Broner at 140.

I would love to see Danny Garcia or Lucas Matthysse and Broner. Matthysse can box, and while he does not have the extra gear speed or pressure wise, he's got a solid chin, doesn't get too far on the inside where those upper cuts will catch him, and his best shot is something Broner gets hit with - a straight to the body. Landing that straight to the head will be a whole different animal though.

Danny, I'd love to see how Danny handles the pressure and defensive style, along with how he'd be able to throw between the shots of Broner. He showed an amazing sense of timing and adjustments with Khan, which seen him get busted up early, but get his timing down on Khan's fast hands, and really wrecked him later. Different styles obviously between Khan and Broner, but the principle is there... timing and punching between punches to negate the speed advantage.

It'll be very interesting to see what Broner does at LW. A real shame though, is that if Mercito Gesta beats Miguel Vazquez for the IBF title, it's another situation where a Top Rank fighter is in his way. And worse yet, that'd put Gesta at #2 for the RING at Lightweight, which means he wouldn't have a chance to snag the lineal title there.

If Broner fights Burns and wins he will have unified titles and beat the top 2 fighters in the division. The Ring is known to make a few exceptions or to modify their rules whicht hey recently have done.

Watching Gesta a few months back didn't really do much for me. Either does watching m Vasquez. Neither are on Broner's level and each would be put away at this point.

Danny Garcia loops his punches, but he times them to punch when his opponent does. Someone with superior hand speed and has a boxing IQ will beat him. Khan had the hand speed and was busting him up, but he does not have the brain to stay smart for 12 rounds. Broner does.

To me its a bit different, I would put Garcia-Mathysse at 50-50 but I would favor Broner larger over garcia than Mathysse.

Kind of a toss up on the Ring situation.

They have relaxed the rules, but not sure to that point. I sent them a tweet to get their take, if Gesta does in fact beat Vazquez and we have boxing politics interrupting things.

Good take on the Garcia/Broner fights.

Really hope we get a Burns/Broner fight and not Broner/Abril, or some stiff.

To touch on Gesta, I don't care for him in the least bit. I haven't seen anything special at all, and the only reason he's getting a title shot is because of the banner he fights under. He's faced 0 competition, and has put in 0 dues, IMO. But, it's nothing new with the top end promoters essentially buying their fighters a title shot. I just hope Vazquez ices him or beats him.

I think Broner is going to be the Roy Jones, Mayweather sorta fighter of his generation. The guys flashy and sometime just downright stupid but hes got some serious skills. He's also got a very entertaining style. He's kinda like Mayweather but a little less skilled defensively but more aggressive and more explosive. DeMarco is a pretty good fighter but was no match.

I was disappointed with the Seth Mitchell fight. I was really hoping Mitchell was going to be that next exciting heavyweight everyone keeps hoping for to take over the heavyweight division but atm its not to be. Mitchell looked good for the most part throwing punches with bad intentions but got a little wild looking to hurt Banks and the more experienced fighter was able to capitalize on the opening left by Mitchell. I hope Mitchell can come back from this defeat but it may be tough as a force like Mitchell can have trouble with his confidence after being devastated like he was in the early rounds. Mitchell has all the potential in the world but he still isn't very polished, hes probably the strongest and most athletic heavyweight out there but as far as his skills go he needs a lot of work.

Looking forward to Berto vs Guerroro next weekend, its going to be nice to see Berto back in action. Should be an action packed fight as well. I think Berto will win with his power and skills. I'm thinking Berto scores a KO in the middle or late rounds.

First, my thoughts are out to the Camacho clan. For those unaware, Hector "Macho" Camacho was shot multiple times last night. He is in critical condition in the hospital, in Puerto Rico.

Been an absolutely horrible year for boxers and deaths, and losing Macho would really be a terrible way to end the year.

A quick note... Delvin Rodriguez turned down a decent payday to fight Alfredo Angulo on 12/15 on the Khan/Molina card.

Would have been a huge opportunity for Delvin after laying an egg against Trout, but he turned it down because the 3+ weeks to fight night isn't enough time to prepare.

Freddy Hernandez is the rumored opponent now. Not a bad guy, for a fighter on the come back trail.

Juan Manuel Lopez is having a hell of a time securing an opponent for his come back fight. His fight Wilfredo Vazquez Jr is now off entirely because they couldn't agree on weight. Vazquez insisting on a fight at or below 126, and Juanma stating he won't go below 128. Go figure. Two pounds. And yesterday, team Juanma turned down a fight with Diego Magdaleno citing the status of the fight isn't what he's looking for (because Diego isn't a champ or true contender, just a prospect still). January 19th is fast approaching, and if he wants a high profile fight on HBO, he'd better get his **** together and find an opponent.

Lots of hesitation from team Bute on the fight with Carl Froch. When asked about it, Bute says "if there is a rematch" with Froch. Considering the wreck job Froch put on Bute and then on Mack, while Bute struggled (and to some lost) with Grachev, he really should reconsider a fight with Froch.

Still nothing from Gennady Golovkin about who his next opponent will be. Remember, a lot has to do with HBO approving an opponent, and they've already said they do NOT want a 154lb'er or 168lb'er.

Love him or hate him the Macho Man was fun for boxing, good to hear he is expected to survive

Camacho seriously hurt in shooting, but expected to survive

TIMOTHY A. CLARY/GETTY IMAGES
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Former world boxing champion Hector "Macho" Camacho was shot in the face as he sat in a car outside the Puerto Rican capital Tuesday, and doctors said he was in serious condition but expected to survive.

Another man in the car, whose relationship to the 50-year-old Camacho wasn't immediately known, died in the attack in which at least one gunman opened fire on their vehicle in the city of Bayamon, according to a statement from police.

Camacho was rushed to Centro Medico, the trauma center in San Juan, where he was in critical but stable condition, Dr. Ernesto Torres, the hospital director, told reporters.

The bullet apparently struck him in the jaw but exited his head and lodged in his right shoulder and fractured two vertebrae, Torres said. The doctor said the boxer, who was trailed by drug and alcohol problems during a career that included some high-profile bouts, could be paralyzed from the shooting.

In regards to Mitchell's brute strength he may be the strongest but thats not going to do him sh*t when it comes to covering his chin. I am still high on Seth, but I don't see him as #1 material anymore. The last 2 fights showed me he is going to have a tough time with any heavyweight that knows how to box and counter. Mitchell will always have that punchers chance and be very exciting to watch. Areolla vs. Mitchell would be fun while it lasted.

I think Bryant Jennings has the makings to be a future heavyweight champ. he has speed and skill. The power and size is what is questionable, but he has come along well and nows the time to step his comp up.
