My sons day as F*K'N RAWWWK STAR!

Ok hopefully a few of you can pull your ASSESSSS out of the rumors section for a few minutes to read a summer time tale. It has a little history(which some of you know a bit about) so bare with me.

I've been posting on here since 04, my son was 5 and I had him on skates. I'm going to mold me a stud! Wrong answer... Kid couldnt stand up most the time!!!!

Moving on to wrestling, I'm gonna mold me a stud. Wrong again, that kid couldn't roll on his back fast enough to get pinned!

Moving on to football, I'm going to mold me a stud center. Wrong Again! "Why should I block for that kid he's an a-hole" he would tell me.

I ain't moving on to soccer sooooo I guess we''ll try basketball. Good he sucks at that! Whewwwwww. Baseball? Laccrose?? By this time he was 8 and I was getting frustrated that he didn't take any interest in the things I liked.

That was until I took him to a place that I like very much too. That place was Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. It was a cold, rain/sleet Sept night. The show was The Black Crowes and North Miss. Allstars. Only about 3,000 people and we sat up close. The minute that kid watched/heard Luther Dickinson play slide guitar his eyes lit up! He was glued to the stage from the opener to the encore. That night was the start of our new ride, a magical ride that I wouldn't change if you paid me.

When he was 8 1/2 he started taking guitar lessons and at 9 he enrolled at the School of Rock. He's played in a number of shows up until now he'll turn 13 at the end of the month. He isn't a prodigy or hot shot kid, just a kid who has worked hard and loves music. Rock music. Each SOR has a houseband made up of 10-12 kids. You have to audition and a seasonal houseband is formed. They get to play extra gigs, some pretty cool gigs for any musician let alone a bunch of kids. He tried out 4 times before he made it just recently. We were all really proud as he was 1 of 4 guitar players they picked and the youngest.

About 3 weeks ago they release their summer gig schedule and low and behold the place it all started is on the calender. Red Rocks July 2nd 2012 opening for Film on the Rocks(They showed Waynes World) and the School of Rock National All-stars. Our whole family is estatic at the announcement. This is where I first saw SRV in 84, who my dad saw J. Tull in the late 60's and a riot broke out with PD firing tear gas into the place to clear it out. The Beatles, Zeppelin, Hendrix and the list goes on and on. My boy is going to play Red Rocks!!! F**K'N AYE MAN!!!

Show day and I haven't slept all night but I'm like a kid on christmas morn. After a 3 hr rehearsal I drop him off back stage with the rest of the kids. The HB and All-stars about 25-30 kids. Kids from all over the country and some damn fine young rockers. Red Rocks gives them the royal treatment. full backstage access. They take lots of pics, let the kids all sign this underground tunnel wall that damn near everyone who has ever played there has signed. They feed them steak and red snapper for dinner and they do sound check.

Meantime I'm with friends and family in Morrison having dinner trying to beat the triple digit heat. About an hour before show time we head up to the upper south lot. Lots of people already there, I'm starting to get that nervous excitment going as we make our way up the ramp. The theatre gates don't open for about 30 minutes so were in line talking when something strange happens. Strange because we've been like living in the dessert and its hot and dry as hell. It's about 6:15pm, gates 630, show at 700. Suddenly while in line these big dark clouds come rolling over the mountains. They've been doing that alot lately, but usually just have lightning with no moisture. Not that day, it starts pouring and we're in line with no where to go.

If we go to the car we'll miss it as he only has one song of the housebands 6 song set. We have no choice but to wait for the gates and try and seek a little shelter before they go on. As long as theres no lightning that show is goin on. By the time they let us in everyone is drenchd to the point of not caring anymore. But the wind and rain are still coming down. alot of people are hiding out when the HB takes the stage. They rotate kids on and off depending on the song. The song I've been waiting to see is 5th.

Now this is where the story takes another turn. 4th song is over, kids for the 5th start out onto the stage. Here comes my boy! I am so fukin stoked! I don't care that he only has one song. Its Fukin Red Rocks and hes only 12 fukin years old! I start yellin his name as I'm rollin tape. Only a few hundred are braving the elements in the stands. I can barely hold the camera steady I'm so excited. He plugs in, the other guitar player starts the song and off they go! Everyone but my son that is. The pedal board he is runnin through, the one he used in soundcheck isn't working. WTF! Theres a tech already out there taking towels and such off of the rain soaked gear and theyre both trying to figure out the problem.

Mean while the other kids just keep on trucking as they have been instructed. After 30 seconds I'm am fuming that this is happening. Why god? Why are you doing this to my kid? He's got one damn song let him play it please! I can't control my anger, I start yelling "Come on"! "Your killing me"! And a few other choice words that luckily didn't make the tape. Finally my son says fuk this and unplugs and goes for another setup. They have to fiddle with it for a second and my son isnt farmilar with the board for his boost and other effects he normally uses on that song but at least now he's got sound.

They're covering G3's cover of Frank Zappa's "My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama" He gets going about the time the other guitar players solo starts, followed by his. After all that bs he pulled through it like a champ. He didn't have the volume or exact sound he wanted but he played it well and I'm am very proud of him. To be on the biggest of stages on a one shot deal and have to go through that just killed me but he shook it off and let her rip.

Thats my summer tale hope you enjoyed it. Moral of the story? I don't know, my kid wants to be rocker and I'm quite certain he'll be back on that stage again because he's willing to put in the time without me telling him to do so. Help your kid find his passion, and don't force yours upon them. Give them the tools and they'll take care of the rest. We joke around about the rockstar thing but we all know "It's a long way to the top if you wanna RnR."

Heres the video, make sure you give it a thumbs up you sums of bitches!

Congratulations, you got a budding rock star there. Keep his cool and pulled it off.
You should be proud.

BTW I was there for the Tull fiasco too.

Thanks guys! He has a pretty big gig next weekend in Vail with some pretty well renowed artists from the past and present. Hes expected to actually play with G Love, memebers of Loverboy, The Fixx and Fastball. They're expecting 5 to 10 thousand people. Hopefully that will go without any hitches.

I haven't made a post that long in years, I was hoping I wouldn't bore everyone before they got to the actual video.

Looks like being a complete and utter f*cking loser skips a generation in your family.

Good for your boy.

I have an advice for your kid: don't plan all of your life on music. It's hardly possible to get rich by playing music. He's good. 12 years old, he's very good, I wasn't doing that at his age.

Mine is on the left playing the Gold Top. Yeah G Love(is singing) played 2 songs with them. He also got to play a song with Brett Dennen formerly of Loverboy and Miles Zuniga from Fastball. Cy Curnin of the FIXX also played a few tunes with them. It's was pretty cool since they didn't even soundcheck with any of them and were playing for quite a few people in the center of Vail Village.
