Comics?!

[this will probably sail like a lead balloon, but **** it. here... we... go.]

alright, here it is. i've contemplated this for a long time now, but i have to make this thread right now. this is the perfect time.

i just finished reading "The Goon in Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker" and all i'm going to say is, if you like comics, you should read it. now. immediately. maybe start with the other volumes (this is volume 6, by the way), but man, i LOVED this book. wow. you could read it alone, but it's way better with after all the other issues.

so, instead of making a "The Goon volume 6 is great! lolz!" thread, i'll open it up to all things.

what's everyone (anyone?) been reading?! anything good? i've been reading "The Goon" a ton. there's a movie coming out, supposedly, and the trailer looks great. it doesn't make much sense if you don't read "The Goon", but whatever. here it is:

YouTube - ‪The Goon -...

i'm also really excited for "The Walking Dead - No Way Out" which would be volume 14. [quick note - i only buy trades because i don't want to have 1,356,272,572 comics laying around my apartment] i can't wait. i almost bought all the single issue comics, but then i'd have to go back and buy all the back issues and i don't want any part of that.

and, of course, my love of comics started (and before a few years ago, ended) with Batman. i think i now own everything that's ever even kind of gotten good press. and i even own some bad ones. hahaha. really big fan of Batman.

that's about it. i've thought about getting in to "Y - The Last Man on Earth" or whatever it is and i've considered "Preacher", but i don't know. given how long it took me to jump in to "The Goon", i should probably give both a shot. seriously READ THE GOON!! do it! i love it. it's a mob / monster / zombie / friendship book, you know, that old hat! check it out, man!

what do you like? lets hear it! i'm open to some new ideas.

sidebar: my new AV is The Goon himself, sporting a Hawks jersey that i put on him. stoked.

I read a lot of independent stuff. Walking Dead, Invincible, Morning Glories, and other Image Comics. I still check out Batman and Green Lantern, but with DC rebooting everything I'll probably cut down. As for Marvel, I still read Daredevil, Punisher, Ghost Rider, and anything Iron Fist appears in. I just enjoy the stories. I grew up when The Flash and Ninja Turtles were on TV and Batman Returns was in the theater, so I've always loved superheroes. F**k Harry Potter and Twilight.

i didn't expect a reply at all, let alone so quickly.

yeah, that reboot is really weird. it seems like they're trying to bring in new fans, but what about all the fans who are invested in the stories? i was reading an article about the reboot and how stories like "Batman Inc." are getting rebooted, but that just started in 2011. why would that EVER need a reboot? i'm not saying it should be canned, but a new number one? already?

i don't know. i don't buy comics religiously at all, so the reboot doesn't really bother me, but if i had been reading stories like, say, Tim Drake becoming "Red Robin" or Damian Wayne becoming Robin, i'd be concerned about what was going to happen there. is Jason Todd still dead? Nightwing? i don't know. lots of questions.

i'll definitely have to read up on "Invincible" and "Morning Glories". i really like what i've seen from Image.

Nevermind the fact there's users in every marvel movie thread and with avatars of comics and ones who have commented on YOUR past comic avatars. SURELY there's nobody with your unique interests in the world.

Anywho, I read Fantastic Four in middle school/high school around issue 400 if that means anything to anybody. Like I had like 398, 399, and 400 with like weird cheesy silver covers and some crazy **** went down with the Observers or whatever they were called and I think Mr. Fantastic died or something. And then I read a lot of my little brothers Sonic The Hedgehog comics back in the day too. Haha. But that's really it. I guess I read a Batman graphic novel way back then too. He had a gun or something.

But other than that I watched Batman and Superman cartoons and whatever other comics cartoons. Then played all the video games of course. Just never got big into the comics themselves.

I have watched all the Twilight movies though.

EDIT: I read Walking Dead up to somewhere after they left the farm back when the show was disappointing me. So I wanted to see the source material. And I read some Marvel Zombie and Evil Dead issues I downloaded during the same torrent search.

I still read a boatload of sh*t; mostly Marvel superhero rags - Incredible Hulks, Hulk, Thor, Avengers, Secret Avengers, New Avengers, Ghost Rider, Herc, and a fair amount of their limited series, particularly anything cosmically-themed (Silver Surfer, Annihilators, etc.) - and any half-way serious zombie or zombie-type material - The Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, Avatar's Night of the Living Dead stuff, The Last Zombie, Raise the Dead, etc.

I also read the Transformers ongoing, and some other crap I'm forgetting.

My favorite stuff over the last decade was or has been the Planet Hulk story arc, the Annihilation mini-series, and The Walking Dead ongoing.

I'd take Betty over Veronica.

For those of you that are reading The Walking Dead you have to check out Invincible, it's Kirkman's other major title on Image and is 1000000x better than TWD. The last few trades have been insane and Ryan Ottley's art is some of the best in comics.

Couple links to some Invincible pages.

The last Walking Dead was pretty good but I feel like that series is getting stale as time goes on. I try to shy away from the big companies (Marvel/DC) because there is just so much history and events that have happened that it is hard to keep track of everything. I also don't like having to buy all different titles to understand an event (ie: the Civl War arc). So I usually stick with the smaller companies like Image, Vertigo, Dynamite, etc.

Also, I noticed some mention of Preacher in here and if your into comics and haven't read that series then you def need to get on that.

I haven't read The Goon but have heard nothing but good things. Once I get caught up on some of my other reads I'll have to get started.

Some other stuff I would suggest:
Fables - (so good)
100 Bullets
Y: The Last Man
The Astounding Wolf-Man
Haunt
Deadpool
The Exterminators
DMZ
Batman: The Long Halloween
Sandman
