Against Me!'s Gabel Comes Out as Transgender

Against Me! lead Tom Gabel came out as transgender in the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. The article states that Gabel has been privately dealing with gender dysphoria for years and will soon begin the process of transition via hormone and electrolysis treatments. Gabel eventually plans to take the name Laura Jane Grace and remain married to her wife Heather.

Rolling Stone has signified this as the first time a major rock star has come out openly as transgender. In the preview article Gabel reflects on the impact of the revelation: "I'm going to have embarrassing moments, and that won't be fun. But that's part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they'll be fairly kind."

wait so he's married to a girl.. and is turning into a girl... so he likes girls but thinks he's a girl so he's going to become a girl? so he's straight right now, but is really a lesbian...

Not surprised. Transgender is so anti-establishment.

I haven't been interested in most of their music since Warren left to open a burrito stand, but I have about 75 Lp/ep/7" etc. They were a big part of my high school career!

I think New Wave really gave away Gabel's thought process as far as being transgender.

Last I heard about Warren was that his resturant was one of the best in Florida so I guess that's better than playing music?
