“If you had a 20-minute trip in light traffic, 20 times 5.7 is almost 2 hours that you ought to allow for a really important trip in the middle of rush hour,” Lomax said. “That’s the combined effect of weather and bad crashes and special events and construction, and in y’alls cases, presidential motorcades. It’s everything rolled together.”
A 20 minute ride turning into a two hour ride because of these factors?! Jeez, might as well stay home! I can't imagine constantly driving in these congested cities. Just get use to it I guess...

I can't speak from experience about driving in most of these cities during rush hour. I plan my trips to avoid this crap when I travel. Although, I think the Beltway is a fustercluck no matter what time of day you go. When I go to NYC, we usually do not leave until we know the 4.5 hour drive will get us there sometime after rush hour. You never know though, especially with the GWB and the freakin tunnels. All it takes is one dipsh1t and you're stuck for hours. I could not imagine doing this on a daily basis.

Don't come to Toronto then. Worst traffic in the country.

It was always bad, but the last 5 years have been absolutely brutal. Luckily I live far enough away to not do that on a regular basis, but I hate the days I know I'm going to have to drive through the city for whatever reason.

Traffic yes, but ever driven through Montreal? What a complete disaster. Must be a lot of asian or female drivers in Quebec or something.

Whenever I have to drive to a NYC airport, or am driving down to the Jersey Shore, I completely circumvent the city. I just take 84 to the Tappan Zee Bridge and then connect to the Garden State Parkway.

We used to just take the I-95 right into the city but the congestion, idiot drivers, crazy foreign taxi/limo drivers, and pothole-lined city highways are enough to make someone drive off the George Washington Bridge on purpose. **** that.

I always take 84 to the Tappan Zee whenever I go to and from school. 3 roads, 84, 684, 287. I think I made record time coming back to school on Sunday. Completely avoid 95 and the George Washington Bridge.

The GSP is madness too. Better be ready to dart in and out of cars, as well as drive as fast as the person behind you.

The NYS Thruway is probably one of the most horrendous roads as well. I cannot believe that a main highway that carries that much traffic, passenger and trucks, is mostly two lanes wide in each direction.

I have found that going into NYC is best on the GWB, then taking the Henry Hudson down to whatever part of the city you need to get to. F the tunnels!

I don't mind the Parkway. Yeah, it gets a little clogged up in northern Jersey at certain times of the day, but just plan to not be in that area at that time and you'll be ok.
As for other cars, I couldn't give less of a ****. I just do my own thing. They're certainly not as bad as the ones that drive on the city highways and expressways.

I also like to bring out my old basketball moves on the Parkway's toll booths. Sometimes I'll go for the slam dunk, other times I take the sure thing and go in for a layup, whereas other times I'll pull up for the 3.

I absolutly avoid Montreal. Traffic wise Toronto is horrific anymore as you know. The only place on par with Montreal is Markham(inside joke for Torontonians only)
