Scotch Help

Hey guys I need some help with picking out a good bottle of scotch. I have family coming from the States and they're going to grab a bottle. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I was browsing through the Duty Free site and in my price range they have:

Glenfiddich 15 Year
Glenlivet Nadura
Glengoyne Burnfoot
Glengoyne 10 Year
Johnnie Walker Green Label
Talisker 10 Year
Dalwhinnie 15 Year
Balvenie Double Wood
Macallan Select Oak
Singleton 12 Year
Laproaig Quarter Creek
Johnnie Walker Double Black
Glenlivet 15 Year

I don't know anything about scotch but want to grab a bottle that will please scotch drinkers.

I don't drink scotch, but my grandfather does. He says he can't tell the difference between the cheapest Johnny Walker label and the most expensive one. I'm assuming Johnny Walker is fine since he's been drinking it forever and price isn't a factor for him. I'm pretty sure he gets Red Label.

Only other scotch I've seen him drink is Dewar's White Label. Not sure how that is though, but I'm assuming it's similar enough to Johnny Walker.

Can't go wrong with Glenlevit.

Glenlevit and Glenfiddich were the direction I was leaning. NJ - I've heard that about Johnnie Walker.

Only scotch I will ever drink/burn my throat over is Johnnie Walker. My grandfather use to love that by the bottle.

you really can't go wrong with any of those but if I had to pick one it would be the Macallan Select Oak.

Do you know more specifically what type of whiskey they like? If they're into smokey and petey stuff get them some Jura bit more expensive than most on your list but its brilliant stuff

I get my father a bottle of Glenfiddich every Christmas. Can't go wrong there.

One of my favorites that is reasonably priced is Bowmore Islay:

You can get it at most LCBOs (ontario liquor stores), and I would assume at most duty free stores as well... It's very peaty and with the right food mixture leaves the perfect smokey taste of a fine cigar in your mouth.

If you can't get that, I would go with Glenfiddich 15 Year or Glenlivet 15 Year for sure. No guest in their right mind would complain when served either of those beauties...

The Macallan select oak could be good too - they have 6 different oak selections (I'm not sure which one this is), and they are a speyside as well - It's not too shabby.

Sh!t I just got really thirsty all of a sudden...

Cheers.

Bowmore is good stuff not a bad price either if you like that you should try smokehead that is peaty and smokey but incredibly smooth at the same time
