Real Estate

I would assume lots n' lots of you own your own home or own some sort of property.

What have been your experiences with real estate agents? Good, bad, sleazy, positive?

When looking for a new home with family we had a good one. Willing to show us all types of houses anywhere, any time. For the most part, buying/selling a property/house without a real estate agent is like defending yourself in court, it usually doesn't work. Their inisght and monitoring of deatails is well worth the cost IMO.

Used House Salesmen.

Nothing nice to say about them.
The one you hire to sell your house is supposed to work for you. They really just work for themselves. I have nothing but bad experiences with them.

I find it's easier for yourself to do it, nowadays, especially with the internet. The forms aren't too hard to fill out either, if you want to take the time which is the big thing. Most people have to work and don't have the time, so a real estate agent is really the only choice.

make sure they are working for you and not themselves...i had two friends that just bought a house after almost 9 months of searching. but the one thing they both said after it was over was that it was nice to have someone working with them trying to get them what they wanted, not just looking after his wallet.

i know when i look for a house, he'll be the first realtor i call because of that

Well I'm not looking for a house, I actually work for one and just want to see what opinions and to hear some stories. I don't have much good to say about most of them, haha!

When I bought my first house in Michigan i had a great experience. On the other hand when I bought in Vegas I wanted to cave the guys head in with the for sale sign. Sleazy, shady sin city scum selling houses out here.

I of course have never dealt with it personally as I'm a bum, but my Father just got a place last week after a 4-5month roller coaster. The first guy was iffy right off the bat, then like the third house my Father wanted to look at the guy couldn't even find on his computer (was on THEIR website). Told the Pops to drop that dude immediately.

But then I guess the lady he ended up with was helpful even though she was very unenthusiastic about it as far as I could tell. He was originally looking at a higher price range and wasn't happy with what he was seeing and when he started looking at more modest properties, she kind of deflated. Still did her job and my Dad has a new home.

We were po' growing up so this was only his second home purchase and the first was a repo that fell in to our laps at the time. None of this wacky stuff. So it was an adventure, but he seems happy, I'll see the place some time December or January if I'm not snowed in. Basically it takes 3x as long as you think it does, and there's always another agent if yours sucks are the two things I took from what my Dad told me of it.

I own a house just west of Denver and a House in München, Bavaria, Deutschland... Used agents both times and couldn't be happier!

I had a buying agent when I got my condo way back in the day. I'm writing my final for real estate law in school in a few days, and I think i know enough about real estate to buy and sell without an agent. They all strike me as weasely!

Good topic 29. I'm currently in the process of trying to figure out what to do about my living arangements, and may need one. I've really got no clue on how to really go about buying a house, so I am gradually reading a bit trying to get some sort of an idea here without looking like a jackass. My guess is I'll probably rent an apartment for another year and try to put some money away and get some bills paid off then maybe in 2014 try and get a house.

If you plan on getting an agent to help you, do your research and ask about the person. There are so many bad agents who are worried about how heavy their wallets are and really don't care what your best interest is. On the other hand, there are agents who will bend over backwards for you. Do some research and ask questions...

We had that in the summer. I was told not to list it cause someone bought it. It was within the day. Kinda crazy, but it was pretty inexpensive house...
