There is a myriad of reasons for joining the military. I'm not talking about men and women joining for political reasons. I'm saying that those who have already joined, are stationed and deployed, and even the ones still here on reserve, are very well-aware of the politics going on, because it directly affects them.

Someone today mentioned poppies should be white instead of red, to signal ''peace'' whereas the red ones mean "blood" and death. I wanted to punch her in the face.

My point(s) were I'm not one to discount the necessity of the US military and the need for it to be strong. My counterpoint to it is it's expanded to ridiculous poportions and is obviously serving a purpose far beyond protecting it's citizens- hence the reference to the millitary complex. As for the serviceman they have a bunch of reasons for joining probably a combination of patriotism and just pragmatic in the sense of employment. They deserve our respect but lets not kid anyone. Many are like our lemming citizens who believe anything and everything their government tells them. The ulitmate example of that is Pat tillman. He joined the military with a selfless purpose but was bright enough in the end to understand how he was being used. |

Are the "lemming" soldiers less deserving of praise and respect?

Then, again, why bring up whether or not servicemen are politically educated about their jobs or why they joined in the first place if it makes no difference to you in the end? Man you're full of talking points that go nowhere.
