As November 11 approaches...

In Canada, take the time to donate to the local legion and proudly wear a poppy in honor of the fallen veterans. Too many times in recent history, the commercialization of Xmas has taken precedence over Remembrance Day. Thank a veteran for their service, donate your time to help in a memorial, do something!

To you from failing hands we throw
***The torch; be yours to hold it high.

Lest we forget.

When Americans go out to vote for the next President tomorrow, I hope they'll reflect on what we have and why we have it.

It's a friggin shame. Veterans Day at least here in the southwest is completely non existent as well as flag day and so on. My house this year continually is the only house that has a American flag flying.

Much respect to the soldiers up north.

You gotta move out to the midwest. Flag pole in every other yard!

Yeah there's a strong showing in the Northeast too.

Lefty, Nevada is where things go to die. I wouldn't expect any patriotism there, especially when half the people are immigrants who sap off our freedoms but give no loyalty in return.

I will honour your personal contributions to our freedom.

I am torn on this one. Obviously for the WW's they fought directly for our freedom. The wars now though? They aren't for our freedom and are fought for dubious/obfustacted reasons.

At the same time every guy I've ever come accross who has served in the Afghan war or Iraqi war has been a decent, stand up guy. I know they are willing to die for my way of life and that's enough for me to be grateful and to give thanks.

Just the opposite here. One of my neighbors even has a spotlight on their flag.

Apart from the flag, what are their sentiments about Veterans Day?

You are suppose to have a spot light on the flag if flown at night. I do as we'll.

Kudos to your neighbor

I agree, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't honor those who carried out their orders, no matter the reasons or consequences. A soldier in the Vietnam War is no less honorable or deserving of remembrance than one who fought in World War II. The same can be said about our troops serving in the Middle East right now.

Your game on this website died years ago, but don't worry, we all remember that before there was FCM, there was you.

What I have contributed has nothing to do with anything. I'm not in the military, so I don't know what your point is. I spend this time of year reflecting on what it means to be an American. It's during this time that I put economic and deficit worries on the back burner and remember how my country was built and who has helped our nation grow to be the great leader of the Free World that it is.

America's Veterans Day and Canada's Remembrance Day both fall on November 11, and this thread is for reflection. There are many threads for you to get your hourly trolling fix; this is not one of them.

You really should have quoted my whole post where it shows that I am grateful to the troops and that every person who has serverd has been a stand up guy.

It sucks that they go to wars that are not either legal or honourable. However that doesn't stop me from being grateful for what they are willing to sacrifice for me.

...or the "guys" can stand up for themselves and not be sheep-le and say NO, I am not going to go and fight your war for you... When they come to my border and threaten my land, and home and family... then maybe, I will take up arms and murder another man... But only then...

The Military route is for dead beats with nowhere else to go in life... The last ditch effort to make something of their lives... and we send them out to be muredered and to murder...

The only exception, IMO, is WWI... These cats had no idea what they were getting into... and they were duped by the powers that be... and still be...

Fuked up world we live in... Can we start the change soon, people... Start thinking for ourselves for once... I keep hoping

Other than failing to mention WWII as an exception, I couldn't put it any better myself.
