Meteorite lands in Russia

A pretty crazy scene in Chelyabinsk, Russia (home of KHL's Traktor Chelyabinsk that includes Andrei Kostitsyn, Evgeni Kuznetsov, and others).

Several videos and photos here:

http://www.russianmachineneverbreaks...n-chelyabinsk/

And here's a video of the moment it impacted whatever it hit: (warning - extremely loud, keep your volume down low)...explosion happens at about :28

Crazy, you hear it approaching but don't see it. I didn't hear a sonic boom, so I guess those things don't fall as fast as I thought they did. Still a heavy impact even if it is a small rock.

Too bad we don't see the rock though. Maybe V-12 the Bi captured another angle?

Very interesting esspecially with what is going on right now with the fly by of 2012 DA14 which will fly over Indonesia at around noon eastern time today (Feb, 15, 2013), Comet Lemmon which can now be seen over New Zealand and Australia, and Comet ISON later this year which is supposed to be the brightest comet ever seen in human history.

Amazing what goes on out there...

Great footage can't wait to see more.

It must have been about the size of 2 or 3 city buses judging from this video.

Amazing footage.

Was it a METEOR, ASTEROID or UFO ? - YouTube

Wow! Can you imagine driving and seeing that? I have no idea how I'd react to that. Incredible footage. I love space and stargazing and all that stuff, but it really is difficult to comprehend.

All the videos are popping up on youtube, alot from peoples dashboard cameras because in Russia I think it is mandatory to have one it's so dangerous driving there.

Type in asteroid in youtube and filter it to today and other views will show. Hundreds if not thousands will be posted by the time people in the eastern time zone wake up let alone the news.

Science fiction come true. A normal day then BOOM, there's a giant object hurtling to the ground. Seems too weird to be real. Meteorite didn't "land" it exploded!

Sure hope we're prepping Kurt Russell and Bruce Willis for this. They'll be the only ones who can save us!

****ing crazy situation. 500 injured from glass shattering from that colossal bang.

For those interested, this isn't the first time Russia has been dealt an asteroid card:

NASA will be streaming the larger asteroid that will be flying over Indonesia between 11am and 2pm EST. It will fly 17,000 miles above but won't hit us.

Russian media reported that Putin personally shattered the meteor before it hit earth to mitigate the damage.

This METEOR has no connection to 2012 DA14, not even through gravitational "catch".

Doing quick math it's amazing to see that if this Meteor had 2x the Mass, the impact wold have had almost 5x the sonic sound-barrier that it did. and the 6m crater they found would have been at a minimum 15m, not to mention the damage would have been significantly more widespread with many deaths attributed.

Now that's a close shave!

Crazy!! Cannot believe 500 people were injured and no one was killed (that has been reported). If it was that large, I wonder if it was picked up on radar or satellite? Usually I am annoyed at how technology is everywhere, but in this case it is useful and pretty cool. Wonder what the impact crater looks like?

If I had time and money, I would fly myself over there and collect bits and pieces of the meteor to sell on ebay. Maybe pick up a hot Russian lady while I am there.

Couple of news agencies reporting nearly 1000 people injured.
