Ye thats what was posted in the article. They said the coin is more durable and will last longer as apposed to printing paper money everyday. Which makes sense but I dont see people carrying tons of coins in there pockets. Its a lot easier to put 10 1$ bills in your pocket rather than 10 1$ coins.

Pretty soon we will all have to carry around "man bags" to hold all our coins like the Euros.

wrong, the US nickel is still 25 percent, and that's what makes it more expensive to produce than the Canadian one.

The other 75 percent that is copper is also more expensive than the Canadian nickel, which is basically steel with a tiny nickel edge. Only 5.5 percent of the coin is nickel or copper, the rest of it is just steel.

I was just reading a intriguing story about the U.S. penny. Common sense not to make something more expensive than it's value. Of course not using a coin that been around for a long time will have it's backlashes but more good in the long run will come from avoiding making a penny.

Smart idea.
It's funny how the USA s so slow to make changes.
I think if you want to keep saying how great you are, you have to be willing to make changes. We keep getting stuck in 'traditions' etc.

Do you hate it when your get change back at the checkout counter and later find out that you had been handed some Canadian pennies? Well, that annoyance will soon be a thing of the past. The copper alloy coins were officially taken out of distribution by the Royal Canadian Mint. Check more info here.

Those little donation boxes at the counters of stores, coffee shops, grocery stores, etc. have suffered because of this move. Nobody wanted their pennies and would toss them into that donation box.

Without the penny I've noticed those donation boxes are nowhere near as fulll as they used to be.

Do they have 5p coins?

We have 1p 2p and 5p coins here. If I ever have any of them I chuck them in the nearest donation box the 1p and 5p coins especially are so tiny they just piss me off. Cash and coins will oneday become obselete everything will be done with cards/wirelessly.

The United States has 1 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, and a 25 cent coin. Is that what you're asking?
