Whiskey, Bourbon, Brandy or straight?

Enjoying my first glass of the season right now with a healthy dosage of Jim Beam.

While it isn't my favorite thing in the world, I still enjoy the hell out of it. Usually wait until December to have my first glass just because it's horrible for you. And the less the better. But it's been a Holiday staple for me 5+ yrs running now. Don't remember liking it as a child. And I would never bother drinking it straight. But I'll be damned if I don't put away 2 or 3 quarts every December.

Thoughts?

I just get store bought eggnog, and pour a shot or two of Jim Beam in, stir and consume. Then commence feeling jolly.

IMO - As the gent above said bourbon is probably best, but a nice cognac or dark rum [Mount Gay and Myers are my choices] if you prefer.

Would suggest icing the bourbon or rum before adding to the nog, and I like a sprinkle of cinnamon or nut-meg.

Great stuff at this time of year, but definitely high calorie and fat.

I like spiced rum with eggnog. It is pretty much the only way I will drink the spiced rum.

I pour quite a bit of chunky egg nog down the drain every year around January 5th. It's become a tradition.

Spiced rum and eggnog is tasty.

I highly recommend hot chocolate and whiskey as well!

Yes, that was a Michigan State tradition. We had a garbage can full of it for the cold war when MSU and Michigan played outdoor hockey way back when. Had to go with cheap canadian whiskey but it served its purpose.
