Nice strategy by the gun nuts.

The kid used a gun designed for a war.

I just want to assure the gun nuts nobody wants to take away your guns.

Lets have a reasonable discussion about some reasonable limits on what type of gun can be available for Joe Public to buy. Lets talk about mandatory background checks.

Take a chill pill Mr. Gun guy.
A gun designed for war? Please explain that. It doesn't matter what type of gun or guns he had, the ****er could have used a basic 6 shot revolver and it would still be a huge tragedy.

I will say that the past few years and especially the last 6 months, my stance on guns has really changed. I agree with the background checks but that's not always going to help. Case in point is that nut that went crazy at the mall, he stole the gun he used and if he were to purchase a gun he would have had no problem as he had a clean record.

I have heard a lot of reports, and I think he used .9 mm and had a .223 rifle? If that's accurate, they aren't really "made for war". A 9mm isn't even used by the majority of LEO's anymore because its lack of firepower. A .223 rifle is a hunting rifle generally. I guess that's really neither here nor there though. The bottom line is that if some ****ing ****head nutcase wants to cause death and carnage, they can do it with or without firearms. I know it's a hot button issue, but there is truth in the old phrase " guns don't kill people, people kill people..."

i don't think anyone's opinions on gun control really belong in this thread, but i will say this: why would a 24 (or whatever) year old kid be able to buy a ****ing bulletproof vest? why would ****ing anyone?! that's the part that makes no god damn sense to me. it didn't come it to play, thankfully, but what the **** does a person need that for? my uncle had (has?) armor piercing bullets for his rifle when i was a young man. why the **** does that exist for a regular person? stupid.

Just got home from work and read about this, dreadful news. Brings back chilling memories of the massacre in Dunblane, Scotland, in 1996..

Not saying all gun violence is unavoidable.

But many people will die in the future because some guy will obtain a gun who shouldn't have been able to. And/or get an assault type rifle like this guy had that is just designed to kill a massive amount of people. Why would joe public be able to buy one of these?

Local news is reporting the scumbag had 2 pistols with him inside the school - a Sig Sauer and a Glock 9mm. These were the weapons used to commit the murders.

In the parking lot right in front of the school, police busted open his car and found a .223 rifle in the trunk. I don't think this was used in the events.

When I think of a .223 I think of a Remington .223 which is pretty much a hunting rifle. What I'm hearing he had was a .223 Bushmaster, which is a different story.

We can all drop the gun debate thing. They've been around forever and always will be. Anyone can get one and that will never change.

If you truly intend to kill someone, it can be done with a sharp pencil.

This is brutal. Literally the lowest possible low. Its really sad how much damage one deranged person can cause. If nothing else, do something unexpectedly awesome for a stranger or someone in your life and make that one person as happy as this scumbag has made all of us miserable today. Showing humanity's goodness goes one person at a time. Its sad that showing humanity's evil can be distributed to us all in one horrible blow.

They don't have to be around forever. Many countries have extremely harsh and restrictive gun laws and they aren't having this debate today because they basically decided to do something about those debates instead of just 'having them'.

Yeah, but chances are you aren't going to be able to kill 20 people with a pencil.

Harsh and restrictive gun laws can not stop someone, who intends to inflict harm to others, from obtaining one.

True, but I could with a crowbar, rebar or a tire iron.

.
why is the world so black and white to the gun nuts?

Reasonable laws, background checks and limits on purchasing automatic guns could REDUCE the amount of carnage when gun toting nut jobs go off. It's really quite simple.
Nobody wants to take your sacred guns away.

Just look at countries (and even states) with some laws in place regarding guns and you will see a correlation with reduced gun crimes.
