If you are referring to me, then no, I wouldn't be among the first to defend islam. In many ways they are worse than christians in this country, but christians are in on my radar more because this country is full of them and their influence is everywhere (yet they still claim to be persecuted).

I was never indoctrinated with religion from an early age like some, so it's easy for me to dismiss it as fiction. Without that built in bias it's easy to see a lot of it is factually incorrect. So it's extremely frustrating when I see people using it as an excuse for stifling scientific progress, controlling others, manipulating government/laws, etc. I don't have a problem with people who believe and let others do as they wish, it's their life, whatever. The problem is the tards who take the bible literally and demand everyone else should too. My 'beef' is when they try to force that crap onto others...and having religion in public school is exactly that.

Not the part of religion that is a problem.

What baffles me the most is how people continually try to come up with rational solutions to situations created by the mentally ill.

No law, no bill, no ban and no debate will ever stop an insane person from carrying out whatever plan the voices in thier head tell them to do.

One of the downsides of having a free society is that you can't lock up people on ground of what they MIGHT do someday.

Nah, I wasn't referring to you....

I don't really see anyone claim to be "persecuted" for being a Christian. Maybe I'm just not looking for it I guess.

This country was founded by Christians, so is it really any surprise that their "influence is everywhere"?

Don't get me wrong. I find some wrong with say - the Catholics - who seem to me to be somewhat hypocritical and money driven. That may not be the case, but it's my perception. Born again's who may push their religion on others are annoying as well. But to each their own.

A lot of the religious principles are good ways to live your life regardless if you think it's "fiction", no? (Love they neighbor, do unto others, charity etc....)

It seems to me that you have a problem with Christian EXTREMISTS, yet you paint them all with the same brush. After 9/11, I have to admit am guilty of the same thing with Muslims.

You already know why I asked!

I know Christmas has turned into a commercial event more than a religious holiday, but the origins are "fictional" to you. Perhaps you should call it Festivus?

Wow. I think for once we almost completely agree on the content of a post.

I would change one word: "downsides".

I just watched the clip. Just curious, what did he say that made him so delusional in your view?

I'm not really too familiar with him, but did you watch that vid? What did he say in it that was so delusional, or are you just saying in general?

If you debate them enough they will absolutely throw that line out there. It gets old fast.

When you consider the vast majority of all elected officials are christian, I don't think those tards realize what being persecuted actually means.

I know why their influence is everywhere, I'm just stating that it is, and it would be nice if it wasn't. They certainly try to keep expanding it too, which I have an issue with.

It's a cliche response, but this country was founded by people who thought slavery was ok too, it doesn't mean it should still be accepted now. Things change, as we learn more and more about ourselves as a people we should adjust our views accordingly.

Southern Baptists around here are some judgmental stupids. Some of the absolute worst kinds of religious tards I've seen.

You don't need religion for those things. That isn't the part I have a problem with anyway.

If all christians lived like that then I would barely have anything to be upset with.

You don't have to be extremist for me to have a problem with you. People who believe the bible is literal choose to be ignorant, they aren't necessarily extreme though. People who lobby to stifle progress because it is against their 'religious principles' aren't necessarily extremists either. Would you consider Mike Huckabee an extremist, or just an idiot who needs to think before he speaks?

The general reaction to muslims after 9/11 was insane, but I just view it as another organized religion with their own dumb little customs and beliefs. I just don't like the concept of organized religion as a whole, indoctrinating kids to believe things that are so provably false...don't question it or you will burn in hell for eternity, do whatever we tell you and you can go live with angels in the clouds, Earth is 6000 years old, don't do anything on Sunday, Jesus performed miracles, creationism, birth control is the devils work, god is responsible for all the good things, but bad things we can write off on the devil. That's antiquated garbage that shouldn't fly in a developed nation such as ours. But it does.

Call it whatever you want. It's so far removed from being a religious holiday at this point it doesn't matter how it started. And while it is certainly just as fictional/believable as most things in the bible, and does tell kids you have to live by an arbitrary code of ethics to be rewarded...you won't see people going to war because Santa Claus told them too.

There are no sins any longer. Jesus died for our sins, so there are no sins. It's like religion lite nowadays. the catholic church got rid of hell, and limbo. WTF!

APPROPRIATE or OVER THE TOP?
Ontario spending 10 million to install surveillance cameras and 2-way audio links to front doors at 4000 elementary schools by next fall.
