I went there once for about a week before a conference I had to go to in rural Georgia. Atlanta is a nice city. For someone like me, it's just the right mix of sports teams (well, it STILL had NHL at that time, lol...), an arts scene, and that nice weather. Plus, I went to enough southern BBQ places while I was there that I felt like a right pig.
Really depends on what your scene is, I suppose. Also, it's entirely possible that me spending a ****ton at a bunch of tourist traps didn't prepare me for the reality of what actually living in the place is like. I've seen a few episodes of "House of Payne," I think I got the jist of it.

It's a pretty good city to live in. I've lived here the past 10 years. If you play hockey it has the largest league in the USA ran by its own players in the AAHL and the league is run great compared to the IceForum league in Duluth.
I'm not much of a club guy, but there's many clubs to go to and a bunch of hole in the wall bars and "normal" bars. About 10-15 Steelers bars in/around the city as well. If you enjoy BBQ it has three of the better BBQ places in the tristate area with Fox Bros, Williamson Bros, and Fatt Matt's.

If you get the chance, check out the Georgia Guidestones.
I saw them last year, and they are pretty cool.

Me and my brother stopped there for lunch when we were driving back from Florida after my dad passed away down there. We pull into a Wendy's and get out and walk my moms dog before we go in. It was early March and probably right around the freezing mark but we left Florida in the morning where it was pretty warm.
So there's me and my brother in our golf shirts and shorts and sandals walking this little lap dog around the parking lot and everyone else is wearing toques and gortex jackets and mitts. After we eat and are heading north again, we sort of realized that the whole time we were around the restaurant and gassing up we only saw one other white guy and he was some sort of repair man and he was eating his lunch in his van. We just started lauging at how much we must have stuck out while we were there. So, in other words, I have no idea what it's like to live around there. Just that there were a lot of black people around that Wendy's, in whatever neighbourhood we were in. Seemed like a nice area from what I remember. |

I know exactly what you mean about sticking out in the south. When we go to FLA during the winter, I wear shorts and T shirts the whole time. They are freezing at 65 degrees. Up here we wear shorts until about December!

That being said, I like Atlanta. Most anywhere you go in the city limits, you and your buds will be about the only white people in there. But it doesn't matter, most people are used to it, and nobody seems to care. Hooters will give you Jungle Fever. It's the opposite of Pittsburgh when it comes to sports. In Pitt, everybody is a Pittsburgh sports fan. In Atlanta, everybody is a fan of other city's teams because they have so many transplants. Just stay away from Six Flags when school is out. and nobody where I live thinks 65 degrees is cold. Then again, it's get's in the teens here in the winter.

I don't plan on living in Atlanta, and do plan on commuting because I will have my car down there. That should make things a bit easier. I will be doing college ticketing down there for what appears right now to be Georgia Tech, but the main hub of operations is in Atlanta which is where I will be.
Thanks for all the info and suggestions, for me where I grew up we had dive bars, local places to eat, and of course Hardees. Can't get enough of those milkshakes and I know Hardees is pretty big down south so that excites me. Haven't decided yet if this is the place I want to move to yet, I have a couple other offers to go thorugh yet. Also I probably won't be cheering for many Atlanta teams other than GT. I grew up an Alabama fan, and I will always support the Pittsburgh teams first and yes that includes the Pirates and Power.
