Speed in Hockey
Just wanted to throw this out there and see what everyone thinks. In my opinion, speed is the ultimate game changer in hockey when it comes to an athletic attribute. No matter your skill level (to an extent), speed will get you noticed, help you stay on the ice longer and not on the bench, and will allow you to make plays that others just can't make. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on this topic.
What do you think is the most important athletic attribute in hockey to possess? -Speed -Strength -Power -Quickness/Agility -Endurance I'm also giving away a free gift at my site that's all about speed in sports. Thanks |

I think there isn't really ONE asset that is better to have than another one. On a team, you need every type of player.
What makes you a good player is on how many of these assets are you good, and how you make your hockey IQ fit with your assets. Douglas Murray is extremely slow, but extremely powerful and strong at the same time. The player is a stud that everyone would want on its team because he is very efficient. He definitly ajusted his hockey IQ to his main asset (strength). He lays out his opponents, makes sure Niemi sees the puck well by clearing the slot, etc. At the same time, he ajusted his game IQ with his main flaw (speed). He plays in a way he never gets in trouble because of his flaw. |

IMO yeah there is one asset that stands out, and it's speed of course like this bot(?) says.. when I played rep, skating was my strongest asset...nowadays it's probably my worst, but my hands and shot are top notch
If a guy can wheel he's going to get to loose pucks, breakaways...the rest tends to come together, but if you can't skate you're never touching the puck, so... |

I read half his post thinking he was talking about the other kind.
