The guy was yapping all game and some of the defenseman were afraid to even stick him in front of the net, the guiys were playing afraid. So I figured whether I'd wi or not, I'm probably not much hlp skating around with a fukked up foot anyway, this way I take this prick out of the game with me.

Definitely look into it Scott, I'd say it's worth it. Find yourself a close team, a good group of guys who will stick up for each other. I haven't run into too many men's league goons, I mean this guy was "Men's League Game 7" kind of guy, he felt like he was in the Stanley Cup, as if he were some NHL tough guy. Usually there's a good group of guys who just want to keep skating and be involved in hockey again no matter the age. It is definitely something you should look into.

I am going to man I need to get out there and do something.

Light contact. Damn near impossible to find a full contact.

I was thankful a guy from Yonkers here at work used to play and had the itch - so he did all the leg work in finding a league and getting it together. Then, when I moved out here with my buddy from ND, he thought it'd be natural for us to want to play - and he was right.

We practice twice/three times a week. Tuesday nights for sure. Sunday nights, and the occasinoal Thursday.

Its not too serious. Its pretty much a group of guys that are just learning. We have 7/18 that have actually played organized hockey before. The rest are either beer leaguers, or guys with rough knowedge of the game that want to play. So its pretty much a feeling out process, and teaching process for guys like our player/coach Pete to help get some basic skating techniques taught to the fresh players.

Ok, just clearing this up, you're in Denver now right?

Because I could imagine, it'd be pretty easy to fill a men's league roster in Minnesota.

Damn, only 7 of 18? Wow, shoul be a rough year, ice hockey is a whole new monster to guys who have never played before, good luck this season.

Yeah, needless to say - the talent level has dropped a significant amount from what I'm used to, from Minny to Denver.

It'll be a rough season, but from what I've seen so far out here, in watching other teams practice before us, it looks league wide that the talent level isn't that high.

On top of that, I think our coach is going to push for a lower division. If we start lighting teams up with two lines, I'm sure they'll bump us up.

I'm expecting good things, simply because we have enough experience at key spots. 2 defenseman, goalie, and 4 forwards. At least I'm hoping it's enough, I hate losing...

Kinda wish I'd gone on to higher levels of hockey past HS and traveling teams, but I'm also glad that I went to college and am now getting an "eddicashun" instead. What are usually the youngest ages of people in men's league hockey? (I'm 19)

I have a teammate/linemate that's 18 - just graduated last year.

I'm 21, my buddy from ND is 21 and our goalie is 19.

Couple of guys are up in the 40's.

We have a wide age range to say the least.

I played in the GAHL.

JKidd, I had the same deal, we had guys as young as 19 and as old as 50+, which is why I'm assuming there is a "light-contact" rule.

Good practice last night. We drilled a bit, light skating work and break outs for about 20 minutes, then scrimmaged the final 40-50. I felt great. Some guys that don't work out or play anything that often, it really shows. I went off the ice one time the entire 40+ minutes of "hockey." And was barely breathing hard. Time in the gym doing nothing but cardio has really paid off, and in a big way. Put two past the keeper and assisted on two more. Mikey, our net minder, really looked bad last night. Very sloppy with rebound control (how I scored both of mine, garbage goals) and wasn't challenging at all. He made some beauties, but overall I thought he was playing very poorly. Found out that it's extremely painful and almost impossible to try and stop with my left skate, without my knee brace on (the knee that had surgery).

We did get the final members of our team there. The 4 guys that didn't show before, and all 4 are very good players. So that helps things out as well. All are around 19-22 as well so they had youthful legs.

Fun time. Can't wait for the next practice. Keep working on my turns and for-to-back transitions.

Nah, it's light contact over in Bristol. Too many young and old guy, they don't let you go all out, although there's sort of a code with regards to the guys you fukk with.

Haha, oh man, 20 minutes of drills, then 40 minutes of scrimmage? Niice, if only HS practice was like that, you gotta love Men's League for that.

Trust me, it was nuts. First time I skated circles since, well, ****, I don't even recall the last time.

The dump in work was extremely beneficial. Defenseman from our blue line would hit the forward for the dump, while the center and wing chased against another set of blue liners. Couple of old guys that have never played before, really don't understand the concept of offsides though.

Took a stick up near my eye too. One of the guys that can barely skate, caught me right over the eye brow with the back part of his blade. Got a bit of a tape burn, but thats about it. Even if I had a visor, the stick would have slid right under it and likely would have been worse. So, in that aspect, I'm glad I don't wear one.

Yeh, I've got ym training visor on for now. I wore a cage all throughout HS, then in Men's League I figured I might want to mix it up here and there, so I figure I would at least downgrade to the half visor and eventually go bare. I haven't caught any shots up high, maybe a stray stick here or there, but I figure for the summer, the visor should be gone, besides it fogs up like a mother. I might keep it on for roller considering the group of degenrates that play that game like its some damn free-for-all.

Yeh man, breakout is essential, that's one thing my team lacked big time, our forwards just stood at the blue lines waiting for something magical to happen, killed the team big time, especially against good forechecking teams, a nice system set up for the new guys could work wonders, its one thing if they cant skate, but if they're retarted, positionally, then you're really fukked.

elaborate on this system...my team is looking horrendous after a decent summer season in 07 our winter07- 08 was PATHETIC and our first 2 games for summer 08 have been brutal...

getting the puck out of our zone is a big problem.
