Its merely a lot more placing a shoulder or elbow into his side and giving him a nudge to get him out of the way, instead of using the trusty lumber.
i agree.i meant for the "tuff guys" who hit in a beer/just for fun league.

There's plenty of well placed cross checks for those guys... I've caught a few as well, and drawn some penalties for the team by taking a couple of those.

They hurt as they always did, but with less fights to give, I'm much more keen on taking the PP instead of starting something.

Kinda like selling my soul...

I'm playing in an hour or so, and we don't have a goalie as of a half hour ago. Looks like 6 on 5 for an hour. This isn't the same team that was without a goalie last time.

We're basically screwed.

Just had a game yesterday where we stood at 1-5, and our opposition had a record of 5-1, so you know what to expect.

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year with a heat index of 105, and we played in the only rink in the complex without air conditioning, so it was safe to say, I was seconds away from death.

The opposition skated a pretty fast game, with speed on both ends, their defense was a bit clumsy, but their O was strong in the corners and had some legs. They had at least 4-5 skaters more than us as we only had 8. We started off well and snuck a goal by them with our one guy who could barely play the game. this is his first year in organized hockey and we have beenn working on him getting a goal all year, finally he collected a pass, crossed the blue, but a show down low that kicked off the goalie's pad and into the net, we all went wild, it was good to see him net one finally. But the joy was short-lived, they put on a heavy attack and tied up the game on a weak attempt by our goalie. Our goalie is 45 years old, and struggles in this type of heat I guess, a shot was taken that went wide and bounced out to the other end, his old joints couldn't get him back up in time and they slammed it home to tie the game.

Following this goal we came back hard, I had a real long shift with a lot of battling behind the bet, I emerged with the puck skated to about the dot, noticed some traffic in front of the net, and just let it rip... 2-1 now. After that, Fat Timmy came from behind the net in a Forsberg-like fashion skating backwards and roofed it over the goalie's shoulder to make it 3-1. After this little splurge, the other team took over, and out on heavy pressure, we put them off for a few minutes and finally the goals started to come in a bunch. They scored on a rebound where a d-man was outta position, and then they scored with a shot off our goalie which was batted out of the air and into the net, it was now 3-3. I finally got back on the rink and skated a shift with fat timmy, whio struggle in this heat, he didn't cover his points and he was lazy to get back in the play, the shift lasted about 3-4 minutes and most was i our own zone, it was so very tiring, finally I intercepted a pass to the point and skated wide down to their net, I had two guys to beat, used them as a screen and put it low, the rebound came out to me, I blasted again only to be stoned, and the puck came out to me once again, this time I sent it top shelf and gave us a 4-3 lead. I mean fukk, I can only be given so many chances and nto score. So at the end of a very very shiitty shift, I managed to net a goal to keep them from gaining momentum. We took that into the final period.

This period, they started to play pretty fukking dirty, and if we didn't have only one win, and 8 guys, and if the game wasn't close I was ready to make some heads roll. I was playing the point and the puck came out to me on the breakout and I was fukking slide tackled by the guy, so I amde sure I fell in an elbow drop type fashion, and when I got up, I placed my palm on his face, so he could help me get up. Then the hacking started, and finally they hit one of my guys from behind, and we got a PP out of it. As I ahve mentioned before, our PP sucks, so it started out rough, and didn't help that I wound up being paired with fat timmy who doesn't like to skate hard, especially on the PP, so the first mninute or so was terrible passing, and a lot of stanbdingg around, finally with time winding down on the PP we were coming in two on two with Nick on my wing, he crashed the net so I juist decided to fire one and get off bc my I needed a break, well Ingot a shiit load on this shot, and with nick providing the screen, the puck bounced off the cross bar and into the net, I didn't even see it, bc I fired the puck and skated to the bench, but my teammates lemme know about my hat trick goal which was nice, we were now up 5-3.

After that, I notched an assist witht he same play, nick was crashing, I fired the puck, and he slammed home the garbage goal, now up 6-3, now it was time to get some revenge. So I get out there and look for my oppurtunity, and also look for some specific numbers. Finally they get a shot on net, crash the gaolie and take a couple of extra whacks, so I skate in from the point and drill one of their guys into the post and down, one of their guys gun for me, who was then tackled by Rex, our defenseman, their pointman comes into say a few things, we get into each other's face; I offer him to fight and call him a vagina and tell him to take the cage off, but he only wants to push and try to gimme a facewash but no luck, so I get my glove under his cage, push up, and get inside give him a good idea of when the last time I aired out my equipment was.... probably3 years ago...

I was given a 2 minute penaty, along with a misconduct, done for the game, they scored on the PP, then we scored on an empty netter, and won the game 7-4... mission accomplished.

Sounds like a hell of a game BSB. The last rink we played at, while it wasn't too bad outside, it was hotter than **** inside. And the biggest shocker, the ice was great. We were sweating our balls off, but the ice held up a lot better in that arena than in the usual ice box we play at.

Good to hear you got some revenge too. ****, I can't wait to get a g-note on the board. I feel like Russell Crowe from Mystery, Alaska!

Plan the celebration Kidd, make it a good one. I have always wanted to do the Theo Fleury celebration where you slide on your chest out to center ice, but i'll have to wait for ice hockey to do that, and I don't thikn I am coordinated enough to do the Selanne shotgun celebration, I may dwind up losing my glove, but Kidd, you have to at least jump into the bench head first...

LMAO. I'm planning. I used to do the glass jump, back in HS and just rattle the glass for the fans.

Now, I'm thinking the Fleury belly slide. I'm by far and away not talented enough for the Selanne shotgun stunt. I'm thinking about watching some Stu Grimson tapes, just to see what he did after he scored. He did it so few times, I'm sure it was the greatest thing on earth for him to actually put one in.

Hey man, if you freeze up, you can always ride the bull, especially if the other team is abunhc of dickheads, it would be a nice way to stick it to 'em. I've been screaming out movie lines as of late, such as "Oh my dear Lord!" or "That's the way you debate!". If we do any damage in the playoffs, then I'm gonna plan something special, get me an HOF jacket

Had a game last night, went in 0-1 with or goalie having a terrible game in our season opener (8 goals on around 15-20 shots). We had a huge bench and they only had 7 skaters. Since my team is essentially my varsity high school team (oldest guy is 21) we played the dump and chase system we played in high school and wore them out. The puck was in their zone the entire game, but their goalie made some great saves to keep them in it. In the 3rd period, were up 2-1 and keeping a lot of pressure in their zone, a lot of good puck movement. We set up a one-timer and put it in but their goalie gets hurt on the play. We put another one by him to go up 4-1 and hes clearly hurt, he said something about his knee and was helped off the ice. We played the last 7 or 8 mins of the game 5 on 6 and just got to the red line and dumped it in every time. It was extremely boring, but we didn't want to run up the score on them. Solid win though, should of won by a lot more, but their goalie played very well, hope hes ok.

So that game I hurried home so I could go to yesterday to play with no goalie...

Yeah, we had to forfeit for not having a goalie. Guess that league has rules against that. We scrimmaged for an hour, it sucked ass and I wish I hadn't gone.

How many of you guys' teams play actual hockey strategy, and discuss it?

One team of mine talks about where to go in the D-zone.

The other basically plays like an all star game. We probably average double digits every game, and let in at least 5 or so. Such a run and gun team, it's a great time.

You forgot to mention who scored that 3rd goal.

My team isn't really skilled enough to play without a system. We have practiced our breakout a lot because that was our biggest problems. We kind of play a reverse breakout the majority of the time, this way, we know what to expect. On offense we just kind of play a system consisting of crashing the net, otherwise it's a free-for-all in the O-zone.

We do. We have to, like BSB said, due to not too many skilled guys being on the team. It makes it a lot easier to tell the wings to play at the hash marks or have them play in a certain area, or have them know exactly where to go with the puck if it ends up on their stick.

As far as the defensive strategy goes, thats something that I addressed, because we had too many guys try and make home run passes while guys are converging on them - which, of course, results in a turn over. I had to get that changed to the strategy that I grew up with in HS as a blue liner, the D to D and up. It took a lot of practice, but it has paid HUGE dividends during games to not turn the puck over at the blue line every time, and to get our breakouts started.
