Which period has most fighting majors?

Guys,

Anyone know which period has the most fighting majors?

I heard some anti-fighting guys say, "it's just two goons that stage a fight at the beginning of the game, it's not spontaneous." Which we know is BS, but could be proved by saying that there isn't significantly more fights in the 1st period than subsequent periods.

I don't know but I'd guess and say that the 3rd period probably has the most fighting majors only because of games being out of hand in the end. Although, there probably hasn't been as many fights in the 3rd now as in years past.

It is overwhelmingly the first period for last season from what I've seen so far. I'll do a sample from some other seasons in a little bit. The thing about it though is it doesn't matter when the fights happen, look at the players fighting and the circumstances. That's the only way to disprove it's not just "two goons that stage a fight at the beginning of the game." In the month of October alone last year the Ducks had over 20 majors in the first period, 6 in the 2nd, and 1 in the third.

F*ck the NHL and their lame ass product. Lets talk minors where players are actually play with heart and physicality.

1st period everytime. 3rd period is a very close runner up. 2nd period fights are the odd ones. 2nd period fights have a lot of different reasons.

I still think it's the 3rd, if for no other reason than when there's a large bench clearing brawl (and there's usually one or two a year), they take place at the end of a game, when one team has run up an enormous lead, and the only incentive for the other team to keep playing is to hurt someone.

The LNAH used to have all their fights in the first 10 seconds.

In this day and age games like Edmonton/Vancouver that had like 5 fights in the last minute of the game are so few and far between they don't make up for it. It's overwhelmingly the first period.

It's the first period, by far. Spontaneous or not, once there's a fight, there's generally not another (things "settle down").

I can run numbers if anyone's interested.
