Mind blowing Stat about 1,000 Career Points

Wow I came across this and it really blew my mind. I was watching a Wings game and saw that Nicklas Lidstrom was very close to 1,000 points. He will be the 8th defenseman to do so. This brought me to look at how many players at each position had 1,000 points.

Centers - 39 players
Right Wings - 18 players
Left Wings - 9 players
Defensemen - 7 players

At left wing there are only 9 players in history to record 1,000 career points. I guess I forgot how much of a goon position left wing was lol. Unbelievable.

I don't see any left wingers on the Horizon to reach that either with the exception of Kovalchuk

Kovalchuck has 447 and alot of time left. There are others up there like Paul Kariya has 946 Naslund has 865 but I don't see either with enough time to reach it.

Slava Kozlov COOOOUUULLLLD make it, seeing as how he rebounded very nicely this season after playing nearly all of last season with two significant injuries (knee, shoulder) but I wouldnt be surprised if he dont make it.

I think we could see him making the 1000, but he aint young, and he aint sittin at 980 or anything, so probably not. I mean hes played in over 1100 games and only got 817 pts (only. HA. Id be proud of 817 seconds of ice-time in the NHL) but I really wouldnt be surprised either way. He seems to have been rejuvenated this season. But more than many, it really seems to matter how good a scorer his linemates are, cause with Hossa he got 50ish assists, but last year with nobodies he got 20ish, and this year with Bryan Little (30ish goals) and Todd White (20ish goals) most of the way and now Rich Peverly (who has about 10 in 30ish games with Atl) and Armstrong (nearing the 20 goal mark) hes picked up about 45 assists. I think if he plays 2, 3 more years and has good scorers for linemates he could hit the thousand mark. But as I say, I wouldnt be surprised to see him fall short.

I also think Ovechkin should make it. (mild homerism warning) Personally, I think that if Kovy had been as well supported as Ovy has been thus far in his career, Kovy would have made the all-star team every year and been a perennial 50 goal scorer and 90+ pt getter, but then Im a bit biased I just think Kovy gets forgotten cause the Thrashers suck and are usually better called the Thrashed.

There is this guy in Washington that has 400 points in 4 seasons and is only 23 years old...

You ask, you shall receive.

54 players have 2000+ PIMs, and here's the position breakdown.

LW: 20
C: 3
RW: 14
D: 17

Ahhhhh... so perfect.

Was thinking there'd be a lot less blue liners though. Good to see the rear guards represented!

You promised me you'd never reveal that Josh. Shows what I deserve when I trust Minnesotans and Coloradans.

When I found out there were "only" 54 guys, I knew it wouldn't take long.

I think the main reason that left wings are less likely to get 1000 points is because there are less right handed players in the NHL, so less people play the off wing on the left side. where as on RW there are more lefties playing the off wing. Just my theory. I have played the Off wing and RW and it is much easier to get goals and points on the off wing
