Gary Coupal, an enforcer from Capreol, Ont., was banned for life by the United Hockey League in 1997 when he broke his stick over his knee and threw it into the stands. No one was hurt.

Coupal's resume includes a 49-game suspension in the ECHL -- at the time the league's longest ever -- and a 46-game ban in the OHL while a member of the Sudbury Wolves

Rob McCaig banned for a year

Ice Hockey: McCaig given four-month ban for biting linesman

Superleague disciplinary chiefs yesterday banned the Newcastle Cobras defender Rob McCaig until 15 April and fined him pounds 1,000 for biting the Cardiff linesman Moray Hanson on his right arm last Thursday.

The incident occurred late in the Express Cup match and he was originally given a suspension of at least five games for roughing and gross misconduct for physical abuse of an official. But the league reviewed video evidence of the incident and decided that McCaig, a Canadian making his fifth appearance for the team, should be punished more severely. The British Ice Hockey Association has supported the judgement, ensuring that McCaig will not be eligible to play in any other British competition this season.

Richard Peacock

"Played WHL here in Prince George, seen him at the bar knock some guy out cold with 1 punch, few weeks later at a house party seen him beat 3 guys up then knock some girls teeth right out with 1 punch
Team kicked him off because he beat the girl up, Went to the saskatchewan league, Played a few games then was scratched one game and the other teams tough guy beat up there star so he went into the other teams dressing room and laid a beating on the guy and came back into the crowd with his shoes and hands all bloody, Got banned from that league, ."
I remember the Jeff Kugel incident , I was at the game with my brother , I beleive the player he suckered was Juri Golicic a player form one of the Slovak countries .

Jeff was not the first player to come off the bench , a player from the Windsor Spitfires was the first .
The sucker punch he threw was on a player that never even saw him coming , then he proceeded to chase another player around the ice but could not catch him , he was throwing his arms in the air and screaming "COME ON SOME BODY FIGHT ME" or something to that effect , he just went nuts when all the fans started to laugh at him for his chase of the Windsor player .
That was one of the funniest things most fans ever saw ..

Brandon Elliot was banned from the SPHL last year. I got to see that one in person!

Elliot, who has been living on the Coast for several years, was brought in for one game and for one purpose: putting Aaron McGill in his place for taking out 3 Surge players. Elliot didn't even make it to the 10-minute mark of the first period before he was finally able to get a hold of McGill and beat him down to the ice.

He knew he was going to get banned, of course, after making an appearance in his only game. No big deal. He just went back to running his business on the Coast and playing roller hockey for the Rolling Surge.

I took my gf to that game and was telling her all week there was going to be a fight...2nd shift of the game Elliot assaults McGill and lays the beat down on him.

Yeah, I had heard earlier that day that we had signed him, and I immediate knew what for. Apparently, everybody else did, too, because there was definitely a buzz around the Coliseum when I arrived at the game. I don't think there has been that much anticipation for retribution since Scott Page beat the crap out of Jason Clarke in 2000 for his role in the bench-clearing brawl in Mobile and subsequent suspension by the league for all games against Mississippi except the.....very.....last......one.

Anyway, a friend of mine saw the morning skate and said that Elliot was sitting in the stands while Augusta was on the ice. At some point, he stood up and yelled, "Which one of you is McGill?" McGill replied that he was the one Elliot was asking about and wanted to know why. Elliot replied, "I'm going to kill you!" and then walked away. LOL Apparently, the Augusta players were on their phones soon after trying to find out who he was. Right before the game, McGill was seen standing at the visitor's door just staring out at the ice.

I was honestly speechless when Elliot got a hold of McGill and proceeded to drag him all over the ice, which says a lot! I had no idea it was going to be THAT brutal!

They were actually pushing and shoving each other in the Pre-Game warmup. He literally beat McGill down to the ice and landed every punch.

He was banned for such an epic fail at goonery.

Kinda hard to punch someone in their grill when the opponent refuses to turn and face you, like McTurtle did. Elliot tried to get in McGill's front, but your boy fled.....or tried to!

Elbowed in the head, Hooked by the throat with a stick, cross-checked in the head with a stick, and punched in the back of the head a few times. McFail was banned later that year anyway.

I think Probert coulddnt go into Canada because it would have violated his probation, and since he was not an american Citizen he would have been stopped from re-entering the United States.

Doubt it. His Ihl days were in my home town of Cleveland. I've seen him tons of times till he was called up for good.
