Your Teams All-Time Number#1 Fighter

Ok, you got a favorite team or maybe several. You've been watching their fights for years and you have many great choices as to who is the BEST OF THE BEST during their time served on the team.

You can only choose one per team, who would it be? Remember, this would only be the body of work with that team.

I''ll get things started with a few:

Boston Bruins: Stan Jonathan
NY Rangers:Nick Fotiu
NY Islanders: Bob Nystrom
Philadelphia Flyers: Behn Wilson
St.Louis Blues:Tony Twist
Toronto Maple Leafs:Wendel Clark

Who would you pick as the NUMBER ONE FIGHTER for your teams?

Dave Brown is the Flyers all-time fighter. Wilson comes in at a close second. And for the Maple Leafs, it's Tie Domi, not Wendel Clark, who is vastly overrated IMO.

Buffalo Sabres

Got to be Rob Ray for sheer volume, longevity, and heavy hands.

Certainly in my day, Brown is tops for the Flyers. Wilson predates my moving to the Philly area a few years so I'm not as familiar with him but I don't think he has anywhere near Brown's fight card.

Brash was also very good in his Philly years. Things stayed calm and liberties taken against Flyers were kept to a minimum during his stay. Chief Berube deserves some consideration too, especially his second stint in Philly. He had learned a few things, almost always won and never lost badly during the 2nd go round.

When I used to think of who the best Bruins fighter was, I tended to be overly critical of Jonathan. I would think of how short his stay was in boston which basically made up his prime years. Because I was always big on O'Reilly I would somehow knock Jonathan for not having the career O'Reilly had overall as a fighter. I would also add Miller and Wensink into the mix, but was also overly critical of how short their time here actually was.

I guess looking back now it's unfair for me to knock them for having short careers here in boston, because realistically, how many tough guys stay with one team for 13 years?

So going off their prime years, I'd say Jonathan would be my pick for Boston.

I have always loved the traditional fighting teams like Boston, Philly, norris division teams, and concentrated more on the fighter than the teams they played for. So I'll give my take on a few:

Philly: Has to be Brown.
Detroit: Probert
Isles: Nystrom
Toronto: Domi
Chicago: This one is tough. My first thought would be maybe Wilson, but can a case be made for Battleship or even Probert? Fraser?
Vancouver: Brashear
St. Louis: Twist
LA: McSorley

It's probably Brown with Wilson a close 2nd. But Dave Schultz deserves a mention. He set the standard for Brown and Wilson to follow. One could argue that Schultz played the role of enforcer better than Wilson or Brown.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Schultz played the role of agitator, not enforcer. He was a very good fighter, no question. He pounded quite a few guys and his losses, while famous, really aren't bad beatings. He was crafty defensively.

The enforcer for the Flyers teams of the 70s was everybody on the ice and the entire bench. If you cheaped a Flyer bad enough, they'd all come after you.

Good post.

Here are my rankings for the Flyers all-time top 5 fighters:

1. Dave Brown
2. Behn Wilson
3. Donald Brashear
4. Craig Berube
5. Dave Schultz

I know some of you are gonna give me heat for putting Schultz at #5, but the top 4 are all better fighters than he was.

Also, here are other teams enforcers:

Tampa Bay - Andre Roy

Edmonton Oilers - Dave Semenko

Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Stu Grimson

San Jose Sharks - Jeff Odgers

Calgary Flames - Tim Hunter

If I had the video to back up everything i've read and been told i'd go with Ferny Flaman hands down he dominated a decade. That being said Jonathan would be my top pick with Wensink and Miller close behind. Maybe Eddie Shore too, like Flaman the video is locked in the archives somewhere but the guy was suppose to be a hot tempered maniac even taking on his own teammates.

1.Dave Semenko
2. George Laraque

semenko over laraque he had tougher opponents and a harder job (protecting gretzky over protecting hemsky)... Semenko was never the HW champion but kinda hard to be in the probert, kocur days

Semenko's peak was before Probert and Kocur's reign, was it not?
