What went on the year you joined HF.com

What went on the year you joined HF.com? Who was the champ that year? Who got the most FM? Who was involved in best players feud? How was your team doing in fighting back then? Any memorable incidents that year?

2003.. the time that Brash and Laraque were Hwt champs on a shared basis. A lockout was looming a little more than a season from now. From Merlin's thread:

Quote:
2002-2003:

1) Donald Brashear, PHI
2) Georges Laraque, EDM
3) Eric Cairns, NYI
4) Peter Worrell, FLA
5) Wade Belak, TOR
6) Scott Parker, COL
7) Reed Low, STL
8) Eric Godard, NYI
9) Stephen Peat, WAS
10) Tie Domi, TOR

Notable Fights:
* Brashear demolishes Sandy McCarthy in pre-season, virtually ending his career
* Worrell breaks Eric Boulton’s orbital bone
* Aaron Downey’s brutal one-punch KO of Jesse Boulerice
It was, although we didn't quite know it at the time, the very last glimmer of twilight for the hockey fighter/enforcer as we knew them from the glory days of around 5 years prior, and beyond..

2007

1) Georges Laraque, PHX/PIT
2) Donald Brashear, WAS
3) Derek Boogaard, MIN
4) Andrew Peters, BUF
5) Brian McGrattan, OTT
6) Eric Godard, CLG
7) Colton Orr, NYR
8) Wade Belak, TOR
9) George Parros, ANA
10) D.J. King, STL

Notable Fights:
* Todd Fedoruk has a nightmare year, first getting his face broken by Derek Boogaard in a destructive TKO, then being knocked unconscious with a vicious KO right from Colton Orr
* Goalie Ray Emery fights the Buffalo goaltender and then heavyweight, Peters, in the same brawl
* Boogaard-Godard I (TKO win Godard) and II (another good slugfest)
* Brashear and Peters split a pair of very good fights
* Josh Gratton in two fight of the year toe-to-toe slugfests vs. Koci and Jim Vandermeer
* Brashear rocks Colton Orr x3
* Laraque takes another slight decision from Derek Boogaard
* Highly hyped Janssen-Belak fight ends in a split decision after a marathon bout

I hated Donald Brashear back then and can't stand him to this day.

I was so excited to find this website where I could see every single hockey fight but that quickly soured when I found out how incredibly retarded many of the posters were when it came to rating the fights and how bad people were homers, especially fans of certain teams.

I'm sure I made some really dumb and inflammatory posts myself.

Can't believe it's been over 5 years since I joined. Wow!

2002

I was actually a 'lurker' for a couple of years before i finally joined in 2002

I joined after the BRUTAL Islanders-Leafs playoffs of 2002, i remember being so pissed off and fired up and tense that my thighs were cramping as i was typing lol

I remember Cairns coming into his own and REALLY being a force in the league, Brash and Laraque and Worrell were the other superheavies with A young Scotty Parker trying to be consistent, i think Lessard was called up at end of year, Godard trying to get a start in the league as well as others, i think it was a pretty good year for us fight fans

There are more that im forgetting but the biggie to me was the Isles-Maple leafs INTENSE playoffs series, where i finally decided to join this crazy place

2007

Anaheim Ducks won the Stanley Cup

Buffalo Sabres won the Presidents' Trophy.

Martin Brodeur broke the NHL record for most wins in a single season with 48.

The 2006–07 salary cap was increased by $5,000,000 (US) per team to bring the salary cap up to $44,000,000 (US).

Joe Sakic scored his 600th career goal on February 15.

Jordan Staal became the youngest player (18 years, 153 days) in NHL history to record a hat trick on February 10.

19-year old phenom Sidney Crosby claimed the scoring title with 120 points

On February 1, 2007, Martin Brodeur passed Patrick Roy for first place on the all-time overtime wins list, with 45 career overtime wins.

On March 11, 2007, Chris Simon of the New York Islanders was suspended an NHL-record 25 games (minimum) for striking New York Rangers center Ryan Hollweg in the face with his stick during a March 8 game between the two teams. Simon missed the Islanders' final 15 regular-season contests, their five post-season games, and the first five games of the 2007–08 season.

For the first time in NHL history, neither of the previous season's Stanley Cup finalists qualified for the playoffs, as both the Edmonton Oilers and defending champion Carolina Hurricanes failed to qualify.

Canada captured its third consecutive gold medal at the 2007 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, once again defeating Russia in the final.

Canada defeated Finland to win the 2007 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships at Moscow, Russia.

Yea, I lurked around for a couple of years before I joined and that's the reason I joined because the other ones were so gay. Plus my son was born in late 2005 so I was up in the middle of the night a lot trying to go back to sleep when I joined. I'm guilty of turning this site into a circus sometimes but I miss the reason why I joined. I blame the product on the ice more than anything though.

Anyway, a good one from 06.

Good stuff. I "lurked" as well for probably over a year before joining in early 2006. My original posts were interesting because i had such limited computer skills.

My top 20 was in run on, paragraph style because i hadn't figured out the enter button

In fact, i still haven't changed my name because the "one word, all caps" style just reminds me of my basic incompetence.
