Yeah, I've got this on my Behn tape - great tilt. Clark got aggresive with Behn, a very dangerous idea if Behn decided to get mad. But IMHO think Clark got a draw/edge clark.

A great scrap. One of the best ones for demonstrating how truly tough Wendel was.

Gillies, let me welcome you to the board first...Welcome!
Now, buying or selling of tapes is illegal. If you hit the Tapes/Collectibles forum, there are lots of good traders in there willing to make a deal. If you have nothing to trade, some are even good enough to get you started if you send them some blanks. Check it out!

The Clark-Wilson fight was amazing. If my memory serves me correct Clark was a rookie at the time. Clark certainly was underated. Him Probert have had a good series with each holding a lopsided win over the other. Clark also pounded Cam Neely.

Descrip: Both players stand back and throw huge right bombs at one another. Neither man goes down and both have thrown at least 20 punches simultaneously. They eventually get exhausted and the linesman come in. IMO it was a draw! Clark's first two years in the NHL he had over 20 fights, but after that, he never got to 15 |

Thanks Dirk. I don't have access to my fight tapes right now so it's hard to research anything. Another interesting thing about the Clark-Wilson fight was that Clark was only 19 at the time of the fight. When Clark came into the league he did a lot of fighting to establish himself. A lot of people don't realize that in his second fight with Probert (first was a draw imo) Clark was recovering from a serious back injury.

Pound for pound there was probably NEVER a better fighter than Wendel Clark, i once asked Tie Domi who he thought was the toughest guy in the league was (circa 1992) and without hesitation he pointed across the room to Wendel. He could knock you out with either hand and most of his victories came in the first 5 seconds of the fight starting. If you watch a Clark tape you may get frustrated by all the fights that were already on the ground with Wendel on top, he hit people so fast and hard , the cameras usually missed the punches! Clark is in my top20 fighters of alltime and next to Stan Johnathon , he was the smallest guy on my list.

I'd say it will be a long, long time before we ever see a player like Clark again. Ball5 to the Wall every shift, could hit like a truck, fight like a champ, play the game...and all this at 5'11" and 195 lbs tops. In the words of Don Cherry...'A beauty." |

If Clark was so good, then why did he seem to get the jump on guys half the time? People talk about his fights with McSorely and Probert and wax on about Wendel......meanwhile in both fights he "won" he clearly got the jump. Totally cheap.
In both return bouts we got a better look at what should have happened. Probie utterly manhandled him and Marty won fairly convincingly....... Is Clark underrated? I don't think so, and for that matter, neither does Bobby McGill This is Wendel........... He was pretty decent, but I don't think he can be thought of as a heavy. No way. Talk about Mackey, and his cheap "W's" against Probie and Marty all ya want--but let's talk straight about Wendel please. |

Clark's first NHL fight was against McSorley at MLG in an exibition game, once again seemed to be an even square off, the fight they had in the '93 playoffs , i wouldnt consider a jumping either, Marty knew someone was coming for him after nailing Gilmour. And as far as Bobby McGill and Wendel are concerned , true McGill outpunched him in the stadium but Clark TKO'ed McGill , in the same building also, i only recently witnessed that fight, ALL CLARK. For anyone who cares, Clark and McGill fought twice on the first day of the Leafs training camp in 1985-86, both fights were draws.
