A weekly excercise in ranking fighters... this week-Joe Kocur

I wanted to do this a few weeks back but put it on hold. I wanted to do a weekly poll of sorts to see where fighters ranked all-time. However i wanted to do this without subjecting you guys to long drawn out top-25-30 lists. It is such a pain to try and put a list together. I usually run into issues right away. I begin to cross out names and scribble new names over them and the whole thing becomes a splotchy, scribbled mess-that i don't agree with anyway. So i figured I'd take a different path with this one.

Instead of a going through the painstaking task of making a top-25-30 list, I figured we would concentrate on one fighter per week. To further make things easier, I figured we could just rank them in 5 spot increments as opposed to giving them a single defining number ranking. So for this weekly excercise, we can use the ranking options listed below.

a)1-5
b)6-10
c)11-15
d)16-20
e)21-25
f)26-30

I think we've already come to a consensus on Probert and Brown so i will leave those guys out of this for now. I will instead concentrate on the rest of the list. This week I will start on Joe Kocur-we will get into the wilson's brashear's gillies playfair's with each passing week. Just figured this will get us some good debate and help us come to a consensus on where these great fighters rank.

So what range would you put joe kocur in as an all-timer? feel free to explain your ranking. Good debate is welcome. if you just want to post what range he falls into, that's fine as well. Every Sunday, i will post a new one on another fighter. this way we give each thread time to develope and everyone can get involved. Thanks.

I'd put him in either 6-10 or 11-15.

I have him right around the 10 or 11 spot.

I got JK and Marty Mac at 10 - One of them is going to have to step-aside - If we look to their season series, well, case closed! How about JK at 10b

Hey Srehm you would be dangerous if you could ever shake this Top 10 bit. You remind me of Christopher Cross - remember that song, "Sailing" - this guy was a one hit wonder - And BTW: stop giving BC fuel to continue devolving this site. you egg him on and he doesn't stop - let it go! Per Favore! Per Piacere!

Having said all that - I think it is healthy every so often to challenge the thinking of the top 3-5 anyway - as time passes, more guys step away, we scrutinize their career work, and sometimes there is a changin' of the guard.

What are you talking about? Just because you aren't knowledgable enough to come up with a coherent top-10 doesn't mean you should mock me man. I mean 10a and 10b? What is that?

You want to talk about one trick ponies-look up how many Dave brown threads you have started hahaha. you've created hundreds of them.

As for BC-what is that all about? the thread is very basic and simple-i hoped even you could figure it out. choose an option and that's that. 10a and 10b? you're joking.

Stop ruining the thread. If you cannot take part like a normal poster. go back to your Dave Brown obsession.

Talk about a clear cut cheap shot.

For me he was out of the top 20 ..but then I saw the Gaetz fights ..on the strength of those fights alone he crept into the top 20 (16-20 range). His early yrs were dull and full of just plain crappy fighters ( yes unfortunately probert took on the BIG boys). His positives are his huge punch and natural strength...once he learned NOT to be a one trick pony his attack became varied and was highly successful. He was great at making you fight a safety first fight( see how Brash and Ray and TT did nothing but hang on for dear life)...if you did fight that way, you had little chance of winning. Actually , the guys who weren't afraid to get hit but also fought with technique were able to do very well( see Marty's Macs success) .

His faults: I think he was not sturdy on his pins when hit with a good punch- can't remember him getting tagged with too many clean punches and standing up. Getting dropped by light hitting McGill is his lowest moment ...but this is what happens when you play Russian Roulette ...sometimes you're gonna lose..BIG!! Not that I thought he had a glass chin , he would get dropped ..but not too hurt ..except Raglan..he was stung bad there...he took a full 10 secs and more to get up.

I liked what he brought to the table more as he gained experience and started using his left more and more....

16-20 it is .

Surprisingly, what tilted me about JK was not the 3 or so KOs that are made out to be what he did in every fight, to some, but rather him being one of the galvanizing forces on that 93/94 Ranger team. JK certainly was an integral part of the make-up of that team, and they played 10ft tall, partially because of his presence

My kinda enforcer is a Clark Gillies type, playing on the first line, checking, hitting, fighting, scoring - JK raised his value, as a Ranger in my book, no doubt - the deterrence over the fighting
