Yeah, this should be moved to Remember When.
I agree with the concensus so far. Crowder would be hard pressed to make it into a top-50 all time list. That's no knock on him, I liked him a lot as a fighter, but he was really one and done. He had that one great year with NJ. Had that great trilogy of fights with Probie and all that hype, but he quickly wound up in Detroit, had back problems and quickly faded. A shadow of his former self. I can't even remember any great fights he had with Det-LA-Van. Faded real quick but hung on for a few years.

eh i should have used the search, i did and read allot of old threads on here. Nobody could be considered top 10 if really only one season. I guess the topic should be worded could have been, and most probably would agree he could have been if it wasnt for his back and NHL cutting down on fights. |

He was dropped by Darin Kimble, no fukking way, on the cusp of the top50.

His tenure was way to short to be considered top 10 alltimer, a tall rangy guy with some legit punching power who knew his role and went on a 'great run' but his resume is just 2 short, plain and simple |

I concur with what John Kordic once told me regarding Crowder. "He`s nothing special, just had a couple lucky months".

I would disagree that its just 'lucky' - the guy was a LEGIT heavy being 6'4' and 220lbs. He had somewhat of a name/rep in the minors and clearly knew what his role was.. He had a looong reach that made it tough for others to reach him and also had legit punching power. He wasnt just winning fights, he was knocking people on there AZZZ, that is a lil more than getting lucky imo Last edited by GOON 21; 02-05-2010 at 10:01 AM. |

Kordic was "bang on" with his synopsis of Crowder and the original fight with Probert which "put him on the map" was over exaggerated due to Probie slipping on the stick.
Kimble wasnt known as a "power puncher" yet he starched Troy and outside the Chychryn, Coxe and a few other droppings that all happened in those "few lucky months", his career doesnt have many other hi-lites, he came and went quickly and seemed "very average" in the last few seasons he was around.

Here`s my take on Troy Crowder:
Great fighters build, tall with long arms, strong, powerful right hand, and maybe the quickest release i`ve ever seen in that right hand. With all that being said, he was nothing more than a one year wonder. Outside of the 1990-1991 season, when did he ever have an impressive season? Although he was respected for his power, he was a one dimensional fighter. That 90-91 season was his rookie season in the NHL and after that Kimble TKO in NJ, he never really dominated anyone and never recorded any TKO`s or KO`s for the rest of his career. Guys figured out this rookie`s one dimensional style. If you asked me, I dont think he had the head for the job injuries or no injuries. A dangerous fighter that had one great rookie season before he was figured out and got rocked by Kimble and Probert back to back. Not even close to top 10 or even top 30 for that matter.

Im not saying hes the greatest, yadda, yadda, etc - but some of you guys are discounting his short career/run like it was no big deal -- R u kidding? sh!t he put more people on there azzzzz in 4-6 months or so months than some other enforcers did in a 5-10 yr career!! Lets not discount what the guy did, he had a GREAT run during that season |
