Tough guys at the Track

Over the years many hockey players and especially tough guys have gotten involved in the racing game, which players do you know that are around the track?

Personally when I was around Calgary, Darren McCarty was always at Stampede Park looking for a winner. Ditto Theoren Fleury. Adam Foote was around the Charlottetown track a few times, and Wayne Simmonds uncle races there and Simmonds has visited. Dion Phaneuf is around the PEI tracks a lot as is Grant Marshall in the summer. Forbie Kennedy and his brother Jamie own horses and are always around as well.

Historically of course John Ferguson was heavily involved in harness racing as was his teammate Serge Savard. Larry Robinson doesn't race but did play high level polo and owns a large stable. I've heard that Cherry likes the ponies as well.

Anyone know of many others?

No tough guys, but I met a few HOF'ers at a greyhound dog track in Salem, NH. Oates and Bourque. Plus Dave Reid.

Were they at Yonkers, Roosevelt, Brandywine, or Freehold Jack?

Fergie after hockey, ran Winsor Raceway.

Haha, Rockingham? Didn't think any big names would go there!

May I ask how long ago it was when you saw them there?

93? Juneau was there also. Met him to. It was after his rookie season, too lazy to Google, memories slightly hazy to the exact year.

Yeah and he bought race horses, and gambled away his wife, kids and fortune, thats why he had to fought people he should'nt, and played a couple moore years than he could, just to pay his debt's!

Stupid way of life (that to many athlets involved at, in my books), that a lot of money, and a (un)sound level of athletes willingness to win, and not give up in time!!

Sorry for my bad English, I'm drunk and disapointed that the young three crowns lost to USA in the JWC!

And i just realized! This is my post 1001 in 13 years! I'm not a postwhore!!

Fergie, in his book, wrote about sending my Cousin to the old Liberty Bell Track in Philly during a Rangers game one night. My Cousin drove like a lunatic and made it back for the 3rd period betting $200 to win and place. It paid $4.20 for second and Fergie said at least I got back the money and Richie said sarcastically, "yeah the gas money!"
Those guys were all over the place but I'd see Richie at Monmouth in the summer and we would hang out!
