Surprising showings by veterans at the twilight of their careers

I was just doing a little 'homework' on Youtube and ran across Tocchet-Ruskowski. This had to be near the end of Roskow's career ( he was with the Pens). He did very well and pulled off an upset against a very underrated young tough guy. I thought this might make an interesting thread. Can you think of others?
I'll put up a few others:
-While not a win I think Willi Plett do OK against Probert.
-Lee Norwood's edging of Wendel Clark would have to be considered a huge upset.
-Dan Maloney might've edged a prime Glen Cochrane...upset for sure.
-Curt Fraser 's KO of Kris King ..no upset but the old dog still had his punch.
-Gillies did well vs a prime Lyndon Byers.

Not hockey but Marciano did well vs Ali in that computer fight

I'll think of some others.

Nilan-Ray 90-91 -- Nilan holds his own against a young pup.
Playfair-McClelland 87-88 -- Playfair had a resurgent year in 87-88.
Gill-May 1 & 2, 99-00 -- Gill has no quit brawling with May twice!
Big Daddy McGill-Kocur 93-94 -- McGill places one right on the button and drops JK

Probie TKO over Scott Parker comes to mind.

The young and up-and-coming Eric Godard was schooled by a wiley old veteran in Bryan Marchment. I was really impressed, but not totally surprised as Marchment was always a good, underrated fighter. It's just that his cheap antics over the years really made a lot of people overlook his talents as a solid fighter, even against the heavyweights of the league.

How's about Gary Roberts? He's had a few of these sorts of fights lately including his destruction of Ben Eager of the Flyers last year. Roberts seems to have gotten better with age.

I also enjoyed the Shanny - Brashear fight a couple of years ago. Shanny didn't win but put in a good showing...

Kocur beat Reid Simpson in his final NHL fight.

Dear lord, Tie Domi beating Dan LaCouture in his final season is not a "surprising showing." He beat Andrew Alberts that year too, is that a surprising showing? Wake up. LaCouture is brutal, Domi is an all-timer.

One guy that I always think about is Mark "the Tinman" Tinordi's last NHL fight when he dropped big Keith Primeau for the TKO win. Primeau had been a pretty solid fighter before that and was in the prime of his career while Tinordi was at the end of a long distinguished career. Popped him and dropped him. Primeau was never the same as a fighter after that loss.

Of course Mike Keane at 40 years old beating a young guy like Darryl Bootland in the AHL from a year or so back was pretty shocking to me.

An older Todd Gill gave Brad May all that he could handle in a great fight and got the win when May was in the midst of a pretty solid career as a tough guy.


Jeff Odgers with the major upset over Todd Fedoruk who was a monster at the time in the NHL. That was pretty shocking to me.

One that comes to mind is the showing Jay Wells had against Brad May when Wells was with the Rangers. First May dropped him then in the second fight Wells showed he could still go and really had a good go at May. Showing even though Jay was getting up there in age he could still hang with the young guys. Lots of heart and a very underrated guy in Wells.

Cashman going toe to toe with Brad Maxwell in 81 was a good showing for the aging tough guy. With all his back problems I thought he did well vs a
young guy who was pretty tough.Also liked Cash vs Howatt in the bench clearing brawl. Old Wayne showed some spunk even though he was well past his prime.

Another one I thought of and maybe the best example in the battle between good ole Harold Snepsts and Jocelyn Lemieux. Harold was getting way up there in age and went out with a bang in the fighting dept. Man another guy I loved in Harold.

Probie whipping Parker is one of the best examples

Duran and Barkley ...was that a hockey fight? Great punches , but it might've been in the ring though
