Re: posting articles and sourcing

Some guidelines for copying and pasting or posting information here and sourcing:

1) If someone on another forum wrote a post or article - don't take it at all. That's their content, or the site's content. If they want to post it here, they can do so themselves.

2) If someone on another website typed up a printed article - you still probably shouldn't copy it.

3) If someone posts a current story from another source, go to that source and mention the original. Example situation: The NY Times posts a story about a possible coaching change. The AP picks up the story and says something like "The NY Times is reporting...". Now someone from Reuters reads it. They don't say "The AP is reporting that the NY Times is reporting...", they just say "The NY Times...". However - only do this with a link, it's the web, after all.

4) If someone posts an older story, you should source the poster and the author.

5) Links are links, no "source" there, otherwise we'd have a chain of 40 thank yous for some of the things here.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or a moderator.
