Thank you

Very well done, and a very honest and realistic position on what the numbers show and what they can not capture. Many thanks.

All the best.

The depth in which you went into is amazing, and it shows how complicated it would be for a person to do a comprehensive in depth top 10 list or top any number really.

When you start comparing era's and such it just gets really complicated and while all of us who love to watch the scraps and debate outcomes and rankings love to discuss it and have a great time doing it. Going into any sort of debate about this has a ton of layers to work through as your project here shows

Thanks for the great work and it was a great read with a lot of details and suprises in it to digest.

Great Job man!

That was a great read. Thank you for putting that together. Interesting system you used and well-thought out.

Badda Bing will be happy to see Behn Wilson all the way down at 46th, while the rest of us can take solace in Nick Fotiu placing at an afterthought 85th.

Having done a few in depth projects over the years, I tip my hat to you sir, the amount of research that was put into this must have taken a huge amount of time and effort. I found it easy to follow, that there was a common sense approach and the scoring system was balanced and fair... There will always be intangibles that you can't quantify when doing these but that's easily the most researched and comprehensive piece I've ever seen put together. Thank you for your efforts here, I really enjoyed reading your work.

Outstanding bro, that was a supreme effort to shed some light on the fight card can of worms and confirmed much of what I already thought about certain fighters. For example, I knew Dave Richter, Nick Fotiu, and Chris Simon, among others, were terriffic fighters but they were lacking something and it's not always easy to put a finger on it.

Well, you put the finger on it and showed what I've always thought in black and white and while I know it isn't a true confirmation, it adds a lot of weight to some hard to come by conclusions.

Just the opposite, I've looked at Jim McKenzie's career pretty closely and actually have him in my top 5 and while that may be suspect, he's definitely top 10 all time and your study confirms it by a country mile, he was every bit as good as I thought he was and took on the very best for many years and earned his spot. Hunter and Langdon are also in that group and they haven't entered my top 50 all time list yet because I've lacked the time but they easily make the top 25 is what I've been thinking and your study confirms it.

Very well done.

Post of the year material! Excellent read and well researched. Thank you for your time and effort that went into this. I enjoy reading such well written and presented statistical material.

After going through the number it really shows you the type of warrior Shelley has been through out his career. Sadly you won't see legends like Shelley in the game soon as enforcers continue to fight off extinction.

Just a couple of notes I forgot to add:
  • I thanked you earlier today because I knew it was gonna be good but, like Shoryuken Bieber noted, I couldn't read your work until I got home today to my iPad.
  • Don't expect a "thanks" from BBBB. He's probably furious right about now.
  • If Mr. Richter comes sniffing around these parts for your contact info, we don't know you

Amazing job shrem. I had started doing something similar to this a few years ago, but I wasn't well versed enough in players and their abilities (such as a rookie George Parros for example) I applaud you for doing this and for taking it as far back as the 70's no less. It amazes me how people rant and rave about certain players and rank so low on your list.

Thanks again for this. I'm sure there are other aspect here that can discount a players overall ranking but theres little to disprove how strong their card is using this system regardless.

Just by reading this i went back and looked at Tim Hunter's card. If you asked me who the strongest cards were overall I would tell you the obvious (Probert, Domi, Brashear) but guys like Jay Miller and Hunter amaze me. (Especially Miller)

Anyway going back to my Hunter story. I looked up his card and I wasn't really impressed. I mean yes he has a ton of top 10 heavy's and such on their but according to my research, he wasn't very good at it. He might have fought a ton of top guys but rarely won. His 92-93 season he had a lackluster year, only arguably beating Brent Thompson but losing to Daneyko, Probert and Quintal. Man he just could not beat Quintal, losing to him multiple times in his career. His final season (obvious non-prime) losing to Brashear, Baumgartner, Laus, Ciccone and Kris King also proves my point. The guy was a gamer but just didn't fair well against the top guys.

Im not nitpicking you. I'm just taking your argument and saying that having a good card doesn't mean you were a top guy. But I'm sure most of you that keep track of this stuff already know that.

For you who don't, Tim Hunter was NOT a top guy!

Thanks man...great stuff

Darren Langdon and Jody Shelley also surprised me somewhat with strong showings. Both of them got into the top-20 in this category. Shelley is the only present day fighter to crack this list.
Damn, I hope he's not done for the year and Lavy doesn't banish him to the press box if he recovers in time, because this looks like the end of the road for him, and Eric Boulton for that matter. We'll see how it works out but we probably won't know either way until after the trade deadline.

also, Tim Hunter was a bit surprising.

Amazing work srehm. I know because I tried to do something similar to this also. I went through and watched every fight Probert, Wilson, Brown, and Brashear had against players that were in the top ten the year they fought. I think it is much more accurate than just listing big names the player fought because most fighters are not the same from year to year. It was very hard and time consuming with just four guys so this list is serious stuff srehm, thanks. This should lead to some good discussions and I will be back for sure.
