As far as Leaf momentum killers go, I'd say Nick Kypreos was our last best candidate. Here's a look at some of his work.

Kypreos loses more blood in a game against the Hawks in 1996 than someone does while undergoing open heart surgery.

He tries to hit Jim Cummins along the boards here when Cummins throws the ol' surprise elbow. Kypreos' face explodes and he lays on the ice a bloody f*cken mess. Later in the game he attempts to exact his revenge and fights Cummins. Again he ends up a bloody f*cken mess.

KYPREOS vs CUMMINS

During the same game (between catching that elbow and getting his "revenge") Kypreos decided to fight known punching bag Cam Russell. They fight, and again Kypreos ends up a bloody f*cken mess.

KYPREOS vs RUSSELL

=====================

Here he is actually winning a fight against Matthew Barnaby. Good for Kypreos right? Wrong, because even in winning he sucked and killed the Leaf's momentum. He broke his right leg in a few different places in the end when they fell. Had to be carried off the ice.

KYPREOS vs BARNABY

Great quote from Kypreos years later on the leg break: "I knew I was in trouble when I heard snap crackle pop and I wasn't eating a bowl of cereal."

==============

Big Francois Leroux had his choice between Tie Domi and Nick Kypreos on this night in 1997. Not surprising, he chose Kypreos. Also not surprising, Kypreos lost and was bleeding afterwards. Not sure which is worse, the left that drops Kypreos, or the right Leroux tags him with while he's down.

KYPREOS vs LEROUX

==========

And of course the infamous Ryan Vandenbussche encounter. Nothing sparks your bench better than watching a teammate get knocked out and lay motionless on the ice while blood comes out of every hole in their head.

KYPREOS vs VANDENBUSSCHE

Being a Bruins fan Brent Hughes, everytime he fought i would actually root for Hughes to get smoked that bad was he. And also during Marc Potvins tenure, i would always say why bother Marc, i swear he never threw a punch with the Bruins.

If I was a player I don't think I could feel too elated with Huggy Bear half-reluctantly noogying some middleweight up and then dusting his big dumb hands like he's in some godforsaken beer league already..

Another one is goofy Cam Janssen making his best war faces to the attendace, along with the usual phantom punches.. please spare us the eyerolling

Rene Corbet for Colorado
The AVS dominated for more than one decade, they were winning at least 50 games each year, making the western conference finals almost every year and Corbet just kept taking the beatings

It was not better with him when he played for the Pens

You loved their spirit and competitiveness but that minute or two fighting was like an hour as you watched them being pounded, silencing either your home crowd or riling up the opposition's.

To get things started, I'm going name a player from a few teams.

By all means add yours to my list!!

Boston-Steve Leach
Chicago- Keith Magnuson
Philadelphia- Don Saleski
New York Islanders- Gerry Hart
Dave Maloney was pretty brutal but game as a fighter! I never saw Don Jackson win a fight as a Ranger or Jeff Brubaker! Bob Brooke sucked as a fighter!

Was it Dave or Don who took the beating from Curt Bennett of the Blues? One of them was getting hammered and no one seemed to be jumping in.

I always thought Brubaker was going to be more than he was. He had that fighter look to him but boy was I wrong! He took some major beatings. More when he left the Rangers.

When Churla (with a broken face) was trying to get Grimson to go. I knew it wouldn't end well, but damn Churla had heart

Warren Rychel gave more blood than a stuck pig. My buddy played with him in Moncton and said he bled in every fight he had, even if he won.

Churla was awesome. He just couldn't say no or stand by and not get involved. Like you I had a horrible feeling when he was going at Grimson and I think he was told not to fight but fight is what a warrior does. When he came back he had a nice scrap with Thornton on Montreal and I am just thinking "This guy can't be serious" as I see them talking on the face off. The usual excitement when watching a fight was gone at that point as I just feared for Churla's well being. Obviously as his career goes he belongs nowhere near this thread but at that time when he was fighting with a broken face it was scary. Talk about someone I would want to be in a foxhole with.

I remember watching that game on TV and Kypreos was just having such a bad night it was painful to watch, great example for this thread.
