I had to be away longer than I thought with the last round of surgery. One of the posts dug into my upper lip and we had a complication. Everything is alright and will start the next round on Dec. 7.

I will be here until then and hopefully, I won't be down as long this time.

To all those who come here to post or to read, I wish for you and your families,
HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

We might not have hockey, but, I am thankful for the great bunch of people we have here, who came together as a result of their love for the game of hockey. As much as anyone, I wish we had the season underway and commenting on events that have happened or memories an event triggered.

From what I heard today, the sides are still miles apart. There is nothing we can do about that. The only thing we can do is continue to post here and share our feelings and opinions with those who share our love of hockey. I am thankful for at least having that.

AGAIN, HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
(This includes all of our Canadian friends, also).

Well some sad news today. Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame broadcaster and writer Pat Connolly has died. The Sydney native had been battling cancer at the time of his death on Tuesday. He was 84.

I grew up listening to Connolly calling AHL games in Halifax and then later on calling the Mooseheads games. He was very well liked for his infectious personalty. Know for being a public address announcer for the Halifax Mooseheads until his retirement three years ago. The press box at the Halifax Metro Centre now bears his name.

Here is a link to his Biography from the Nova Scotia sports Hall of fame. I recomend everyone take a read

Always sad when a link to the pass, passes away. I remember when Dan Kelly had his battle with cancer. Got to pay my respects in a funeral parlor full old NHL guys. R.i.p.

I guess its safe to say I have attended a few hockey games in my life and have seen a couple records set during games , but I witnessed another "WORLD RECORD" being set at a game yesterday ..

At the Mississauga Steelheads vs The London Knights yesterday they had to go to a shootout to determine the winner .
The shootout went a "WORLD RECORD SETTING 19 ROUNDS" !!!
They said after the game that was the first time that both teams used all 18 players on the bench and started to go through the lineup all over again with the first two shooters any where in the world that hockey is played at any level , nice to be in attendance to watch the Knights be part of that , I have witnessed them set records before , they hold the most losses in a season 3-60-3 , plus the record for most wins from the start of a season , I never missed a game for both of them , they hold a few more but I wont bore you with all of them ..

PS:: I forgot their was two records set in the shootout , Seth Griffith (the first shooter for London) scored on his first shot , and also scored the winner as the nineteenth shooter for London , his two goals in the same shootout is also a record ..

Here is a little trivia from the 1972 Stanley cup playoffs .

A NY fan called Derek Sanderson an A--Hole and tried to stab him , a NY police man stepped in and prevented the fan from carrying out the deed , when Sanderson thanked the cop this is the response he got , "THAT'S OK , JUST DOING MY JOB , I THINK YOU ARE AN A--HOLE ALSO !!..

I had a real good laugh after I was done reading ..

That's some pretty amazing stuff. Funny about Seth Griffith. What unique records. Two goals in a shootout dosen't seem very likely to be tied anytime soon.

even though I hate the shootouts that is pretty interesting stuff. 19 rounds same player scoring twice. Don't think you will see that to often !!!

By the way Maggie there is a thread about Hull in remember when section. I gave my take but I'm sure you could go into more detail. Hull was strong as a bull. I remember how he would power down the wing and unload that shot. They need some clarification on how he took care of business when he was trifled with. Unlike Mr. Gretzky.

That's totally awesome. I'd ask for the cops autograph after that one!

There is a guy here that hangs out in the same club as me and he has some stories about Sanderson that will make your blood curdle, the guy was definitely a first class A Hole. Treated women like crap, booze and drugs almost every night, aloof with fans, etc. It's not unreasonable to see a fan stabbing the guy, or a woman, or one of his own teammates!

I have recently purchased the book "Derek Sanderson Crossing the line book , this is from the introduction on the cover of said book .

Derek Sanderson was a key player with the Big Bad Bruins of the 1970s. At one point he was the highest paid athlete in the world .
Sanderson played with and against the era's legends, wining two Stanley cups and assisting on Bobby Orr's famous diving goal in 1970.
Off the ice "TURK" was one of a kind , he drove a burgundy colored Rolls-Royce , wore a fox fur coat and when asked what wining the Stanley Cup meant to him he said , THE DIFFRENCE IN THE MONEY IS WHETHER I TAKE A COLLAGE CHICK TO CAPE COD OR A PLAYMATE TO FRANCE" .
He was the toast of Boston and New York owning a nightclub with Joe Namath and even hosting his own talk show .
But behind all the glory Sanderson was an alcoholic and drug addict.
He bottomed out loosing it all and ending up sleeping under bridges , at one point he was so sick he had to use crutches to walk .

I will post some more about Turk as I get into the book more , if you guys want to hear more about this extraordinary life story ..

Apologize for not posting for a bit.

I went to the VA for some health care and they asked me if I had my flu shot yet. I told them no. Then they asked if I had my Shingles vaccination, again I told them no.

They said how do you feel now and I said pretty good, I don't have a cold or anything. They said good, we want to get you those shots so you don't get the flu or shingles, as they are going around. I said OK. They asked me if I was allergic to eggs and I said no. They gave me the shot.

The only thing I can say is man, that flu shot really works. Three days after I got it, I had the flu. I finally got over the worst of it this past Saturday. I won't even try to catch up on what I missed since Thanksgiving. All I will say is HI Guys. Missed ya and I plan on sticking around for awhile.

Thanks to all for keeping the lights on here. I couldn't find my ass from my elbow for a few days. Good thing I had a GPS on the bathroom otherwise I would have been in a real mess.

I swear, I think these preventative shots do nothing of the kind.

I've always said that I thought as soon as I'd get a flu shot, I'd get the flu, almost makes me think it's a conspiracy from doctors.

My friend's son just got the flu and I asked if she had had a flu shot and she said never and I said GOOD!

Hang tough Maggie. I haven't had the flu since I was a kid. Knock on wood.
