List
Ok, here is my list. I have based my decision on judging each guy when he was at his prime.
1)Probert 2)McCarthy 3)Wilson 4)Brown 5) Laraque 6) Domi (hate the guy but you have to give him credit) 7) Kocur 8) Gillies 9)Godard (I think he could give any one of the above a run for his money) 10) Brashear |

If Bobby Ny had a dark wig on during his battles, you'd think you were watching Bruce Lee. Nobody on skates had faster fists (of fury) than Nystrom. It's easy to forget the sheer brutality and fierceness of the old school fighters in favor of more recent fighters, but a refresher course with the video clips reminds you of what indomitable vikings guys like Gillies and Playfair were. I'm from a hockey-playing/loving family. I've had these discussions with some of the most knowledgeable hockey fanatics around. The consensus is that Gillies was the undisputed HW champ from about 1975 to1980 (and then some). The jury is still out on Fotiu, so, once again, the list is subject to modification. Thanks again. |

I see your point about Vukota, but think you're wrong about Jonathan. McSorely could go higher than 26, but no higher than 20. Grimson could go higher up on the list too. I seem to get a lot of crap about Fotiu, so I'm going to review his fight cards and vids. Picking the top 10 or 15 of hockey's greatest fighters is a little bit different than picking the top 10 fighters for a given year. Anybody who makes the top 15 on most lists can be in the top two or three on anybody else's list, there's simply too much room for debate. I'm sure there are just as many people who would back me up on my other choices, which I consider rock solid, as there are who would object to them. The overall tally of votes on the All-Time Top 10 List certainly supports my argument here. A lot of people seem to disagree with my placement of Eric Cairns, but I stand by it. I think he had (arguably) the most damaging punch of anybody on that list (along with perhaps Twist, Gillies and Kocur). I would put him up against anybody on my list on any given good night between 2001 and 2005. Your mileage may vary. I can live with that. Thanks for the input and the positive/negative criticism, folks. It's all good. |

New or old (here), shouldn't make a ****'s worth of difference to anybody here (unless you're a high school freshman). I'll stand on the merits of my posts, for better or worse. Intelligent, well-argued and well-informed discussion is what counts everywhere else, and this place doesn't strike me as being an exception. I wasn't born the day before I registered on this site, and I've been a devoted hockey fan my entire life. That should be good enough for anybody here, and it's certainly good enough for me. Feel free to exercise your ignore list if you disagree.

Also, I don't see how you can have Gillies ahead of Wilson when he got destroyed by Wilson twice and had an inferior card to Big Behn.
