Hey ESTB, I'm making some changes to my top 30 because of some tapes I've recieved.
1.B.Wilson 2.Probert 3.D.Brown 4.Wensink 5.Nystrom 6.Gillies 7.Playfair 8.McSorley 9.Jonathan 10.T.Hunter 11.J.Miller 12.Berube 13.Richter 14.Fotiu 15.Cochrane 16.J.Kordic 17.Semenko 18.Kyte 19.Plett 20.Crowder 21.Ewen 22.Kocur 23.Holmgren 24.Schultz 25.Frasar 26.Grimson 27.Byers 28.Hoyda 29.Nilan 30.Ray I decided to take out Simon and MacKenzie because I just haven't seen enough of them. Had to move Gillies up( huge win over Jonathan), added Ewen, Holmgren, and Ray. Took out Domi. Soon I'll have a top 50 complete. |

Im puzzled why? Wendel Clark has not mention as often in this thread. The guy in my books should be atleast the top ten at best top 5. For the reason that according to points accumulation by ESTB. Clark has fought three of all the time greats Probert, Wilson and McSorley. And IMO he's come victorious in the career bouts he's had with these great pugilists.
To hark back, Wendel I have to say takes atleast 2 of the 4 fights he had with Probert and loss 1 and drawn. As for Wilson... Clark id say won the first bout and drawn their 2nd one. And McSorley he's fought 4x. His record with Marty is officially 1W-2D-1L. Besides that Wendel is perhaps one of the most feared fighters during the years between 85-96. No one really wanted to take this guy on. I recall Joe Sakic and how impressed he was to see how much room Clark gets on the ice. Basically he said "Guys are scared of him". Even Shanahan in a recent interview said he feared Clark. Coming from a guy who has been a very good fighter throughout his career says alot. |

1. Bob Probert (The Legend Continues)
2. Dave Brown (Most Feared) 3. Behn Wilson (Tough as nails) 4. Joe Kocur (KO King) 5. Marty McSorley (Battle harden Warrior) 6. Wendel Clark (Take no prisoners!) 7. Tony Twist (Bombs Away!) 8. John Kordic (Rockem Sockem Robots) 9. Stan Jonathan (Little big man) 10. Tie Domi (Hand breaker of a head) My list is based on what ive seen and heard. I've really only seen fights dating back to the mid 80's. |

After 64 ballots, here is how the Top 20 looks . . .
(1) Probert (2) Brown (3) Wilson (4) Kocur (5) Gillies (6) McSorley (7) Nystrom (8) Fotiu (9) Playfair (10) Jonathan (11) Twist - and gaining fast (12) Grimson (13) Wensink - very narrowly over (14) Kordic (15) Domi (16) Berube (17) Miller (18) Ferguson (19) Simon (20) Semenko I think the list is tremendous, but we need those who have yet to contribute to do so . . . we could also use a little more debate - Who is overrated? Who is underrated? And so on . . . |

I agree that the list is very good. Most of the top names you would expect to find are there. Personally, I would include Paul Holmgren and Tim Hunter in my top 15 and Glen Cochrane in my top 20. I would bump Domi and Berube into the early 20s and I have Chris Simon far away at #50 (or close to it). Maybe I missed the boat on him - [o]
I include John Ferguson in a group of enforcers I don't rank along with others like Gassoff, Maloney, Battleship etc. I just haven't seen enough of them to have a solid understanding of where they belong on an all-time list. Unfortunately the best I can do at this point is acknowledge their reputations. I'll probably get killed for this, but I also have Sandy McCarthy in my top 20 (at #20). Hopefully when McCarthy retires, he'll be remembered for his first 5-6 years in the NHL and not his last 2 or 3. Between 93 and 97 he had a remarkable run beating all the top names in the game. |

I also have Sandy in my top 20 - the guy was an absolute monster in his prime, and IMO, is underrated now . . .
Timmy Hunter is someone I would most likely find a spot for in my Top 20, but Holmgren, for me, is closer to a Top 40 guy (as is Cochrane) . . . I think both Domi and Berube deserve Top 10 consideration . . . and although I may overrate Simon, I thought he may have been the most devastating fighter I've ever seen for a couple of years . . . Kocur is my current Number 1 all-time (along with Probie), so I have no problems with where he's rated, and I also have no problem with Twist's ranking - the thing that powers Twist, in my mind (aside from the "fear factor"), is that he was the acknowledged league champ for at least three full seasons, which is something that only a few players can say (maybe only Probert) . . . |
