Nick Fotiu Interview from 6/10/09!

http://rangers.nhl.com/team/app/?ser...LPage&id=32299
Nick was so right about his ability to take the body and just explode on guys. He also was a hell of a skater except for his turns that were a little wide. The Garden would buzz whenever he hit the ice and man when he hit someone what an explosion of emotions from the NY faithful!

I think Nicky would've fit in well in the NEW NHL.... few fights, fast skater, and no skills ....they'd just have to correct him about running guys through the boards.... a kinder , gentler Fotiu.........
Seriously though BJ, thanks for the interview...always like to hear from the 'old gang'.

You're very welcome, I wasn't even aware of it and was looking at something on the Rangers and just happened to see it. I'd like to see him on the Rangers staff but don't see that happening. All I know is all the teams that he coached with had lots of penalty minutes and see what he had to say about Colton Orr!
Did you notice when Nick named current Rangers, except for Lundqvist there wasn't a Euro in the bunch!
What does that tell ya?

Very good interview with Nick. Class act and a Ranger legend. Hope he becomes a part of the Rangers in some capacity, he is obviously still revered.

Too bad he never dropped em with Nystrom or Gillies. That was the odd thing, you had Beck and Fotiu with Rangers and Nystrom and Gillies with the Isles, some massive potential fisticuffs there, but none of them ever fought each other. Fotiu should have walloped Nystrom for butting McPhee as one poster said Fotiu was on the ice for it, as was Beck. That was a time they failed to protect their teammate.

Nystrom -Fotiu did fight and Nystrom slaughtered him ( actually it was unevenful fight with Nystrom doing all the punching and Fotiu looking to hang on.)

I got a kick out of him telling Bossy he wasn't going to score his 50th...or he'd pay.

Here is a 3 minute clip. He said he loved going into Philly and fighting and that Kim Clackson was the toughest guy that he ever fought!

Fotiu did it the right way. I am glad he said Clackson because he was a tough fighter that knew how to fight vs a guy who is a product of his size.

Good job on this thread, bigjack. Very interesting to hear/read a legend like Nick talk about his time.

You though, are still a dick.

I guess that's a complement.
Fotiu eliminated the so-called Flyer Flu in the old Spectrum and actually exposed the Flyers as a bunch of bullies. He fought their best in Holmgren and Wilson in their building and wasn't a home fighter and in that era, there wasn't a tougher building to play in!

You are preaching to the choir. I have never discounted Nicks accomplishments. He was the real deal.
