Most Effective Third Man into a Fight.

Two guys are going at it and one clearly has an advantage over the other or it is a perceived mismatch by a teamate.

Its about time for his teamate to jump in and give him a hand.

In most cases, all the third man in does is grab a hold of the other guy and prevent him from doing damage.

What I'm looking for in this thread is a third man in that actually attacks the other fighter, inflicts some damage and really gets into a full blown scrap.

One example that comes to mind for me is when Jim Pettie, a goalie with the Boston Bruins is fighting with Gary Howatt of the New York Islanders.

John Wensink of the Bruins jumps in the middle and becomes the main combatant with Howatt. He knocks Howatt down and attempts to pound on him while he is on the ice.

Does this sound like a fight you have seen?

Please feel free to add yours!!!

Get ready for the ' Congregation ' to go into overdrive..

Probert went after Boughner in Buffalo.

Basically, Boughner did something to SteveY and a brawl broke out. Probert went around the pile and attacked Boughner while he was somewhat restrained by the refs and still in the pile.

Scott Parker was about to decapitate Jovanovski...
Bertuzzi came off the bench to save his teammate.
That was a great 10 game suspension to take.
Bertuzzi came back from the suspension, and took a huge step up, and became a legit superstar.
Jovo lived.

That is from the new age NHL though.
Old School NHL would have much better examples.

Godard roaring off the bench to attack Haley who was about to fight Brent Johnson is one I can think of immediately. That was only a few years ago, it just never happens anymore like that and was one of the old school moments of the year in 2011.

Penguins/Islanders Brawl - Brent Johnson, Eric...

I think it was Kevin Maguire in that incident.

That was the closest thing to Old School in todays game as we have seen in a while. This was after Johnson TKO'd the Islanders goalie I believe.

I always wanted to see one in the NHL like in Slap SHot where two guys were going at it and one of the Hanson's came up unnoticed and just cold cocked the poor bastid. Then again there's a lot of stuff in Slap SHot I'd like to see in the NHL.

The thing about this that really pissed me off was the fact that Dan Kordic was kept all the way down at the other end of the ice by the refs plus with Otto in the box the Flyers were outnumbered. I remember watching this as it happened, yes it was wild to say the least.

Shane Churla's teammates rescue him after he took leave of his senses and went after big Stu Grimson with an already-broken orbital bone:

Churla will never be charged with not having guts! He was fearless in his day. A very entertaining fighter and a great teamate to boot!
