Most Career Goalie Bodychecks

When you think of exciting bodychecks, what could be more exciting than seeing a goaltender getting laid out?

The guy who throws the check knows he is committing the ultimate hockey TABOO and must be tough enough to handle the consequences.

He knows the minute he gets to his feet or turns around, the competitors entire team is coming after him.

My question is who do you think did this the most in their career?

A quick guess of the top of my head might be Bob Probert but I could be wrong. What do you guys think?

Who is the KING OF GOALIE KNOCKDOWNS?

Im going with Probert too, he has some pretty memorable goalie encounters, he didn't care.

Bob Probert Runs Tom Barrasso - YouTube

Probert punches Barasso in this one-

Bob Probert Gone Mad - YouTube

Ed Belfour Goes After Bob Probert - YouTube

Billy Smith - Rich Pilon vs Bob Probert - YouTube

Those were just a few I could find right away, Probie didn't like goalies.

Probert also ran a goalie against Toronto. Who was the poor soul that did his job and went at Probert to take the beating? Kostopalaus?

Crap video but at least we hear about Probie running another goalie and that poor bastard came to the goalie's aid?

Bob Probert would definitely be at the top of this list. Honorable mention Nick Fotiu. I know he's run the opposing teams goaltenders quite a bit.

Speaking of goalie body checks I'm trying to find an older clip of a Buffalo goalie who purposely hit a guy in the corner and pounded him. All I can find is Tootoo, Lucic, Sen brawl, and Garth Snow vs. Steve Shields incidences

When it comes to running the goalie, the first guy I always think of is Paul Holmgren. If your goalie dared step out of his crease, Holmgren wouldn't hesitate to run him. Hell, he could be in the crease and Holmgren would run him anyway, lol.

I remember Nicky decking Billy Smith and the Islanders did squat! He knocked Smith right on his ass as the period ended and just calmly skated away! He also decked Paul Harrison of the Penguins who was playing the puck and fair game and knocked Marco Baron on his ass into his own net and skated out nice and calm as O'Reilly stood by playing house maid picking up Baron's equipment off the ice! He also smacked Dan Bouchard who went after him with his stick at MSG!

My pick would be Jim Korn....he was a defenceman most of the time but that didnt stop his end to end "goalie skull off the cross bar trick'......this guy was huge and when he got some steam?? you couldnt stop him down the left side...he would bring it to center and slap it at the net and then barrel right into the crease, he bounced more than a few lids off the crossbar, I use to anticipate those rushes with more enthusiasm than a Leaf win, which were few and far between in Korn's day....he was a total bully and when he was in a mood?? like a bull in a china shop, he only did this stuff on his terms though, sometimes he was invisible out there, other times he literally looked like an escaped convict, beedie black eyes, he was one of those guys who's tongue would hang out while he skated around, almost Reptilian and scary.

I remember reading a story in the Hockey News around 1983 that said Korn had been in a vicious fight in an exhibition game vs Buffalo and received a black eye courtesy of Mike Foligno but they also added Foligno received a badly broken nose (hence 'the hook' in it) in the fight but most of all everyone who knew them was shocked because they were best friends and Korn had been the "best man' at Foligno's wedding a few months before in the summer.

The moral to that story is "some best friend", Korn is indeed the man responsible for permanently "warping" Mike's beak.
