Here is that Laidlaw fight that was a good scrap. McSorley won on points!
I'll see if I can find that Holmgren scrap!
I give the edge to Holmgren but McSorley was tough and had that Langdonlike stamina! Ed Van Impe was giving the color commentary for the Flyers! Clark Gillies and McSorley-maybe an edge to Gillies. McSorley had the helmet on that helped him!

I liked how he fought angry all the time. Never half stepped or went through the motions. His killer look was legit and he took his job very seriously. He would spook a lot of today's players into being little lap dogs.

Who knows how many Cups that Mario-led Pittsburgh team would have won if they would've kept McSorley and Kevin McClelland and not traded them to Edmonton. Lemieux unfortunately did not have the luxury of having top enforcers around to watch his back. Guess the Penguins management didn't belive that you needed a top notch enforcer to be successful, especially since they already had Troy Loney and Jay Caufield around

Here he is with Brown
With Joe Kocur
McSorely does not appear to be too concerned about the reps of the aforementioned like many others....

I give him credit for going after Dave Brown but with same results! The next year our HW went from Body by Jay Caufield to Mr Vitalis Jeff Brubaker who after every fight would skate to the penalty box fixing his goddamn hair! Unreal! Finally Espo became somewhat serious and brought in Paterson and Knuckles and the Rangers finished the 1988 season with a 19-9-4 record just missing the playoffs to the Devils on the last game of the season. Jay Caufield, Don Jackson, and Jeff Brubaker-Espo's idea of an enforcer! He had tough young defenseman in Carkner and Tinordi and couldn't wait to deal them away and kept recycling guys like Mark Hardy!

Espo's idea of an enforcer:
Sam Rosen is all fuc*ed up here and must of been tapping into Chadwick's and Gordon's stash of booze!
There he goes reaching for the hair. It was only a little fixing here:
This fight caused Espo to finally get Paterson and Nilan in 1988!
There he goes with the hair again. Just a little one:
Ole Brubaker was game and a good guy, he was just not a good fighter! In the 1990's Brubaker was the head coach in Greensboro, NC and one night had a few too many and hit my Brother in Law's car on Wendover Avenue. No major damage was done and they exchanged information before the cops arrived and Brubaker stayed out of trouble.

I didn't realize McSorely was around to fight Holmgren and Gillies. That was old school.
My old man always said that McSorely was the toughest player ever, and that I should play like him, but by the time I hit junior, McSorely was almost done. I've seen many vids of his fights and that's why I consider him top 15 All-time. He took on EVERYBODY.

MM kept himself in great shape and was just such a throwback, there just weren't too many like him. I have some hateful memories of him from the Oiler days, seeing him, Messier, and company win cups while my Flyers had to watch, it was very frustrating to say the least I guess because the Oilers were so damn good AND they had plenty of toughness. I have Marty ranked pretty high on my top 50, I think he earned it even if he didn't win every fight, he ALWAYS gave 100% and gave his opponent all he could handle. He never seemed to win real big or lose real big and had some truly epic fights, wars on the ice, and made himself into a good hockey player to boot. He deserves all the credit in the world even if you don't like him.

Funny you didn't post the clips of McSorely taking losses to both those guys. Baghdad Bob at his finest. Marty Mac, Brashear aside, should always be remembered as a legend. Had so many great scraps throughout his career. The Baumgartner fight, the Probert war, the playoff fight with Clark, the wars with Vial, Langdon, Ray and so many more. You'd be hard pressed to find a more fearless guy with such a good fightcard. I'd put McSorely's card up with just about anyone, it's definitely top 5 all time.

It's hardly "monitoring you" Bob. You haven't gone 5 posts in a row in the past 5 years without bringing up one of Kocur, Wilson or Brown. You're just that OCD you don't recognize the fact.
