Thanks for the Bailey story, he is from my home town of Bracebridge Ontario (same with Roger Crozier and Kris King).

Broken Orbital, that was a rough night for Leaf Fans watching one of their players get embarassed like that. No lunch money left in Kypreos' pockets after that game. Cummins and Russell probably went out and bought ice cream sandwiches with it afterwards.

It doesnt have to be in the same game but let's hear what stands out as the alltime redemptions in hockey??
The Neely vs Kleinendorst call for this thread is a great one. I was at the game and Neely being TKO'd had the crowd in a buzz but everyone knew as soon as they hit the ice again, Neely would go after him, which he did. When Neely stepped on the ice, everyone stood. You could cut the tension with a knife.

How the hell would Ed Van Impe know?
He was talking about the fights and how one's eye's water and he was a guy who rarely dropped his stick!

Hockey digest BJ your not making me feel any younger. I can remember waiting for those suckers to come out as a kid. If im not mistaken we had to wait a whole month between issues....

Speaking of retribution. Chris Simon got beat by Francois Leroux handily in their firts fight only to have Simon come back and score a decesive kd win in the rematch. Somon was with the Nordiques at the time.

surprised this hasn't come up with how many Wings fans there are. Again like most this isn't Legendary or anything but it's one of the events of retribution that will always stand out to me...mainly because its the Wings and we never see that but Scott Hartnell took Jiri Fischer out with a torn ACL and ended his 02-03 season only a month or so into the season and just about everyone knew Fischer would be going after Hartnell. Sure enough he did and I'm fairly certain this fight is what really spawned one of the best Red Wings games of the last decade(non playoff of course)

Another that I remember well is Jiri Fischer and Scott Thornton. The video explains it all but I remember this game was on a school night and I watched it unfold.

Another one that deserves some merit is when Ryan VandenBussche dropped Grimson then later Grimson comes back and gave Vandy a pretty good beating that looked painful. One thing for sur VandenBussche could take a punch.

Exactly they were a month apart and I was the same way. I couldn't wait for my next month's edition. Remember when Schultz ripped Maloney as not being a good player because ole Dave scored 20 goals and 36 points and Maloney scored 15 goals and 32 points. What ole Dave failed to mention was Maloney missed around 13 games.
The next 2 years Maloney scored 27 goals and 66 points and left Schultz in the dust!
Stan Fischler was always writing something wacky and I remember how they'd have the rosters and the average age and size and the Rangers were old at like 30 years of age on average and were also small at around 6 feet and 180 lbs on average. The Flames were massive for that era and Buffalo!

Hi Everyone

Rob Ray taunted George Laraque in Edmonton after roughing up Doug Weight. He said something to the effect " what is going to do to me, beat me up?" A week later, Ray toook a savage beating.

Here is one I remember - Do not know if it meets the criteria of "retribution", anyway:

Flyers tough guy Dave Hoyda runs Mike Bossy into the boards. Clark Gillies takes exception and pounds Hoyda into the ice

Never ever leave the Rangers for the Islanders. If you do then expect to have your ass handed to you!

Great stuff with the Ace Bailey / Eddie Shore stories. When most people hear the name Eddie Shore I'm sure the first thing they think of is Slap Shot and old time hockey. In fact, Shore was known as one of the toughest and most skilled defenseman of his era.

I've always found this to be a somewhat haunting photo. Maybe it's because it appears Shore is not looking Ace in the eye.

On a side note, Ace's son, who I believe was working for the LA Kings at the time, died on September 11, 2001. He was a passenger on one of the hi-jacked planes that smased into the World Trade Center. Hard to fathom how one person could be involved in two such horrific tragedies.

Wow I forgot how bad Puriton suckered Cairns. More importanly, I did not forget how much of a coward Puriton was. He hides behind the ref when Cairns gets up seething mad and then even worse he turtled in the next game when Cairns went to get his retribution.....If i'm not mistaken that was the middle of the end and the end of the end for Puritons career in the NHL.

That's all part of the psychology. He'd already torn Cairns to shreds and there was nothing left to prove. Learn the game!

Hi Guys

Another good one was when the Islanders put out the strike force of Vukota, Baumer and Gary Nylund to revenge the brutal hit on Pat Lafontaine.

These guys extracted extreme retribution from the Rangers.

Cheers,
Steve
