I'd like to say Probert - Ewen 2, but it was pretty close. I thought Probie edged him ( came on strong after Ewen's helmet came off- I always thought Ewen was a lot more comfortable with his helmet on)- boy did Probie crack his hand off that helmet a few times.

Also, Probie - Crowder 2 was very rewarding to see.

How about Schultz and Bouchard #2 ...by all accounts Bouchard buckled the Hammer after Schultz won the opener.

B.Wilson - Baxter ???? Behn got some retribution for the suckerpunch.

I can't believe I almost forgot Proberts destruction of Semenko after the MLG jumping...boy that was sweet.

Yeah here is the Probey fight with Domi that I mentioned. The whole goddamn joint was abuzz waiting for the rematch.
At Joe Louis Probert and Crowder was also great!
How about O'Reilly and Gillies. How often did they go that series in 1980 or Howatt and Schultz in the 1975 playoffs?

I think one of the best was the whole Ranger team trying to get Sanderson and Sanderson's team-mates and the officials trying to protect him ...

I wish that had been a beatdown, but it really wasn't. The better example I think is Dan Lacroix on Rich Pilon after a ridiculous Pilon cheap hit on Lindros. As Barry Melrose said, "he (Lacroix) tried to kill him (Pilon)."

Barry was right about that.

the second half of the Easter Brawl at the Montreal Forum

was all about getting payback on the Nord's Louis Sleigher for his suckerpunch of ?jean? Hamel

been meaning to re-do this brawl for awhile, and this thread pushed it onto the front burner

Let's toss a legendary case of failed retribution in here.

Nick Kypreos vs Chicago

F*ck did I ever hate Nick Kypreos. I remember with clarity shaking my head in disgust back in '95 when my Leafs picked him up from the Rags in a deal that sent a bunch of scrubs both ways (alright I didn't mind Wayne Presley). My disdain however turned to pleasure later that year the night Toronto rolled into Chi-Town.

Hawks had some bruisers in Probert, Russell, Ciccone, Cummins, and likely others dressed. It was Jim Cummins however who delivered a HUGE elbow to the face of Nick Kypreos early on in the game. There is no youtube video, and my description will only do it injustice, but Cummins just splatters Nicky's face with the elbow. Red stuff everywhere coming from Kypreos' nose and a cut on his cheek to the point that he has to change his blood-soaked jersey. Cummins picks up a 5 minute elbowing major, but NO game misconduct.

Angry about the elbow he took less than 10 minutes earlier, Kypreos decides to take his anger out on Cam Russell. Now, normally I would never say this about someone choosing to fight Cam Russell, but this was not a good idea. Started out with a bit of wrasslin, and then Russell got his left going and, well, for the second time in the game Kypreos would need a new jersey.

Bloodied, battered and bruised early in the 2nd, Kypreos meets up with the man who ruined him to begin with. He and Cummins have an altercation but are seperated by the linesman before it escalates. Both receive 2 for roughing. When they come out of the box Kypreos decides to settle it and goes after Cummins. Little bit of tugging and holding. Kypreos throws a couple nothings. Jimmer gets his right free and 6 punches later Kypreos (for the 3rd time that night) was an ABSOLUTE BLOODY MESS. It was Jim Cummins who needed a new sweater this time, as Kypreos' blood was all over it. Can't find the fight on youtube, but here it is for download if you're interested.

KYPREOS vs CUMMINS

Truly an epic night of retribution failure for Nick Kypreos. F*ck did I ever love it.

The retributuion was actually by the great Red Horner who knocked Shore out cold after his cheapshot on Bailey!

BJ : The young guys just dont know the history of such things , I will do a short lesson .

In a December 12 game in the year 1933 Eddie Shore cheap shoted Toronto's Ace Bailey from behind , slew footing him sending him crashing to the ice fracturing his skull , Red Horner grabbed Shore and laid a beating on him leaving him unconscious on the ice as well .
Bailey never played another game in the NHL , The teams got together and played a benefit game to help Pay for Ace's medical bills , that was the first "ALLSTAR GAME" ever played !!!!!

Thanks and the first time I read about this was in 1974. My parents bought me Hockey Digest and they had a story on Ace Bailey and that he was doing fine and was 71 years of age and went into the entire story as you have indicated.

Were you at that game when it happened? Seriously thought I didn't know that was how the All Star games were started, that is a fun fact to know, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. You are HF.com's version of Yoda
