Jack Carlson question...

I know he didnt wear the glasses in the NHL but what I was wondering is "did Jack Carlson actually fight in the WHA with his glasses on?" I have seen lots of pics of him playing with them on in the WHA........Did he take them off to fight?? seems kind of silly to fight with glasses on? any of you senior posters recall??

I believe he played with them in Minnesota

When Jack was with the Minnesota Fighting Saints, I believe he and his brothers played with glasses in 1975-76. I saw a few pictures with them on in playing situations and in one shot Jack has his gloves off with Baxter with glasses on. There is very little video available of the WHA though.

That's the picture I saw and there were few others but not with the gloves off.

By the way, I believe Al Arbor also wore glasses when he played.

Didn't know Carlson wore glasses. I thought Arbour was crazy for wearing them but Carlson fighting with them, geezh!

That picture is funny. Carlson is actually really intimidating to me despite the goofy look he has. He's like one of those scary clowns or something.

I don't imagine a guy would try to hit the glasses but Baxter would have, little weasel!

Hey, is that the Ray McKay who once played for Chicago Black Hawks? The McKay who's shirt was thrown into the stands by Derek Sanderson?

His Rep from the WHA was big but........

When he hit the NHL he looked good in some fights, not so good in others but I guess his back was pretty much shot by then.

One of the best WHA fights I ever saw featured Paul Shmyr kicking the cheap shotting punks ass in Cleveland. Loved it!

Flyer Frank, I have that fight on an audio tape and was shocked to hear it. Shmyr got a standing o from the fans if I recall. I aways though that Carlson had never lost a fight in the WHA under I listened to this fight. Maybe it was his only loss.

The Brawl in the Mall, Minnesota Vs New England. I have heard so much about his fight with Nick Fotiu, this must be the most hyped fight from the WHA ever.

You know when you look at it, what we all do as posters is evaluate fighters and their fights and if you think about it, we are trying to summarize careers and rankings based on having half the information we need to do so in many cases.

That is why NO ONE is an expert or will ever be one, no matter how much we get into it.

I'm sure we would all be in for a shock or two or three if we saw 100% of every fighters fights. Someday, I hope there is more accessability to a wider range of fights from the past. This will answers the many myths that are out there!

When this happens many of todays hero's will be tomorrow's human beings!

The same Shmyr that had his face pushed in by Playfair...ouch !!! By the time Shmyr made it to the NHL he had faded badly. I guess Ruskowski was the only one that never lost ...huh ??? I can't imagine ANYONE not having a loss in the WHA.
