He should end up buried in the minors

Thread about the Chris Dingmans of the NHL

Tens of enforcers have been dreaming about making the show while playing in the minors every year. The better of them often made it. Which players made the show but did not even deserve it? I understand that Warren Rychel made it because he was a decent 4th liner but a good fighter? LOL

Then we have special examples like Dingman..one cannot say a single reason why he was playing in the NHL instead of minors.. ****ty player, ****ty fighter

Which people were similar like him?

First - Dingman was ok at the time

Bolts did not have a real enforcer [Gordie Dywer had bombed out] and Dingman could forecheck ok. They added Roy later that year and were quite entertaining.

On topic - Steve Dysktra - pretty weak in the AHL yet got games with the Sabres and Whale [I think].

Brian Curran - wtf? imo average at best at an AHL level.

No disrespect to either as I watched them both and enjoyed their attitude, but why they got the call while others did not is beyond me.

Dinger was a great team guy and responsible, he wouldn't take bad penalties and coaches will favor that over a guy who is a better fighter but takes bad penalties. Andre Roy and Dingman is a great example, Roy would get scratched by Tortorella all the time because he'd screw up and take a dumb penalty while Dingman almost always played.

Roy was the better hitter, skater, and fighter but constantly got passed over for Dingman.

Serge Roberge was an outstanding fighter! He had 1 fight in the NHL.

He had 5,091 penalty minutes in the various leagues spread over 22 years, including juniors but only 24 minutes and 1 fight in the NHL for Quebec. He had more fights in the Roller Hockey league than in the NHL!

He just never got the chance. Players like Tony Twist and Darren Kimble, who were horrible hockey players overall, always bumped him out of the way. He played for 23 different pro hockey teams in the various leagues. That's gotta be a record.

Yeah, Serge Roberge was one of the very best fighters i've ever seen. It's a shame he never got the chance to show his wares. There's a ton of great AHL and other footage at NHLfightclub.com. Serge, Val James and Bennett are three guys i'd have loved to see compete with the best of the best. Dean Ewen's another one.

Doug Doull. Nice he got a little shot but he still couldn't play or skate worth a damn. I remember Mike Sullivan giving him as little as 2 minutes a night.

Tore Robertson wasnt a great fighter --- but he was a damn gritty player and was basically the only guy on the mid 1980s Whalers teams who took on everyone

He wasnt a great fighter (I get that, understand) but the guy could play a regular shift, play the game, throw some body checks, scrap and score some points as well... He had 78 points and 695 PIMs in 2 back-to-back seasons, (yes thats accurate) those are AMAZING numbers

Thank god!! Have you ever seen any one guy have so many awful looking fights? Man, he was really bad. I'm sure there have been worse, I just don't know who they are.

Strotini's average fun point at DYG is 5.0, that's the same as Bissonnette, Carkner, Konopka, Parros, Reaves, and higher than Brown, Clarkson, Crombeen, Eager, Jackman, Laperriere, McLeod, Staubitz, Thorburn..

I mean I've never really got the intense hate for Stortini, sure he hugged a lot but at least he went with the heavies on a regular basis. And could be worth ten points per season or so on the ice as well -

I hate jumping on bad fighters but i see the point. Certain guys (dingman) should be buried for better fighters

God i miss the days where guys like churla would come up and get nearly 300 minutes in half a season. The rissling 27gp-275pim stuff or cochrane 219 in 31 etc.
