First live fight

I've visited this site a lot but have never posted. You guys in here have a wealth of knowledge and I enjoy all the info that is available through you all. Okay, I want to write about the first live fight I actually saw. It was November 2nd, 1995 @ the HP Pavilion in my hometown of San Jose. The Devils were in town. There were 4 fights in that game! The first being Odgers vs Peluso. I didn't expect that many fights in my first game. After that I was hooked. When 2 dudes drop the mitts and square off it captivates the entire arena. I had never been a part of something like that. I don't remember the score and I don't remember who won but I do remember all the dudes who fought that day. It was Wood-McKay, Guerin-Kyte, Guerin-More and Odgers-Peluso.*Tell us about yours!

That's funny because i recall watching that game on TV not long after i moved to santa cruz. The Odgers-peluso fight still sticks in my mind. That team was so horrible but loaded with toughness and i always liked odgers because he never quit trying to lead a bad team by effort and example. One of his fights that i recall well.

My first live fight is memorable because my father and i went to see the clippers play with a friend of the family who talked about how he had heard that the fights were fake (like pro wrestling) the whole ride down. I was 10-11 and admired everything "tough". Philo Beddoe was my hero

Anyway, about 10 seconds in two guys squared off. I think Doug Johnson for the home team. He broke his opponents nose which led to the ritual of scraping the blood off the ice. I turned to my dad's friend like; "fake, huh?"

BTW, Welcome to the forum, double J

My first fight was about exactly two years ago. I've never seen a live NHL fight, so this will be about an SPHL fight.

On a Surge PP (MS Surge vs Huntsville Havoc), Jason Beeman and Billy McCreary were exchanging a few shoves. They ended up behind the net and the whistle blew. Beeman finally had enough of McCreary, dropped his gloves, and let the right hands fly. McCreary never dropped his gloves and turtled.

Was a fan for a few years already of hockey and fighting but my first live fight was Memphis Riverkings in 92 and don't remember the opposing team or the player but I was absolutely hook 100% from that point on.

My first live NHL fight was Edmonton at St. Louis, Luke Richardson vs Brendan Shannahan @ the old St. Louis arena Nov. 6th 1993. Still have the ticket stub somewhere as it was my first NHL game live.

The one that sticks in my mind as the first fight that left me awestruck was back in April of 1965 , John Ferguson absolutely destroyed Eric Nesterenko , blood all over the ice , Nesterenko never received a fighting penalty as he never had a chance ..

I have never seen an NHL fight live as I've only ever been to a couple live NHL games. I do not remember the first live fight i ever saw however I do remember the first hockey enforcer that i followed. It was Jody Shelley when he was a teenager playing for the Halifax Mooseheads. He was with the team from 1994-1997. I was 13 at the time when i saw my first Mooseheads game and it was also their inaugural season in the QMJHL and Shelley's rookie season in the QMJHL. Shelley quickly became a fan favorite and i remember me and buddies would go ballistic whenever he would drop the gloves. Shelley was a great guy in the community too. He would always take time to chat with the fans before the warm ups and after the games. He was so well respected and loved by the fans that he was appointed the Captain in his final season. So Shelley was the first real enforcer i followed through out his career. I don't remember too many of his fights that i saw live from his Halifax days but i do remember him having a couple tough fights with Peter Worrell. I remember seeing Worrell live and thinking man this guy is one scary dude. He was huge in junior hockey and towered over most. Anyways Shelley went on to have a pretty solid career in junior hockey. He scored 25 goals in his final season and had a team record 420 pims in 59 games. The record for pims in a single season still stands today for Halifax. He also holds the team record for career pims with 933. Anyways Jody went on to have his number retired by the Mooseheads. So while i do not remember my first fight i do remember the first enforcer that i watched live and left an impression on me.

Did not experience a live hockey fight until 1986 - When at the MSG I saw a young rookie by the name of Terry Carkner do okay for himself against a visiting Buffalo Sabre named Clark Gillies

I think the first was Dale Purinton Vs. Sylvain Blouin on December 29, 1999, my first AHL and Hartford Wolf Pack game. That's at least the first that I remember, will have to check the boxscores on some of the NHL games I went to as a kid in Hartford, Jersey and New York.

I would have thought sooner for you. Mine was relatively late as well. King vs. Tocchet in 1990. Surprising win for King. Shortly after (maybe that season?) I caught Domi vs. Berube. In fact, we were just easing into our seats when that one happened. Too much warm up time at Charlie O's

I was at Donald Brashearīs 1000th game and he went with Boulton. One of the last fights in his career. Cally and Bogosian also went at it.

When you are watching your 1st ever live NHL fight, funny thing is that you suddenly miss the announcers speaking as you did in 12645 fights you watched before on the internet or live TV. Crazy feeling.

Statements of the guys living in the NA and never going to a NHL game scare the **** outta me. I traveled half the World to see a NHL game. Thanks to the fights it was worth.

Always respected Tocchet but did not like him especially after he gouged Chyneoweths eye - Good for King - King was another guy that was wily and cagey and could really pull an upset

...i gotta check the date on that fight (Nov 12, 1986) - I was more interested in meeting Carol Alt in those days as she used to walk around the Garden during the games- very approachable- Actually, Greschner dated a girl I was going with in those days - we had similar taste/interests

I've been going to Rochester Americans game since before I could remember. So, I don't recall the first exact fight

BUT, the first one I remembered seeing was the Chainsaw Churla vs. the War Memorial crowd incident, when he played for the Binghamton Whalers. Can't remember what year this was, but I must have been no more than 7 or 8. Churla had a pretty lackluster tilt with Andy Ristau, but while on the ice dropped a knee right into Ristau's nuts. Who knows what Andy was doing to deserve it, if anything? Churla got booted, and back then the visitors had to walk past the fans that sat on the stage on their way to the locker room. Rochester loves their tough guys, Ristau being one of the all-time faves, and the fans got after Shane as he walked by. Churla then went up onto the stage, lifted the railing out of its moorings and threw it on the first row of fans. Then the Bingo bench went over to help, it was crazy! Luckily I was sitting elsewhere. i have loved hockey ever since!
