Yeah Tkaczuk came in off the boards and scored on a slapper and then we saw Sarge and Marcotte squaring off. Marcotte ate a big right and looked like Frazier against Foreman!
He fought O'Reilly like a month after that also in Boston and did an excellent job and also fought and beat Ken Hodge that year!

Vickers was typical of most Rangers of that era, more willing to live off their early reps and fat wallets.

On the plus side for Vickers, there were a couple of incidents where he showed some balls. For one, he did come out of the penalty box to challenge Schultz when Schultz was finding few takers. Unfortunately, that fight never came off. He also saved Carol Vadnais from taking a serious beating from Bob Gassoff by being the third man in and getting tossed. He tried to get Billy Smith in the 75 playoffs but Dave Lewis quickly jumped in.

In addition to the Marcotte, O'Reilly, and Hodge fights, Vickers put a pretty good beating on Len Frig. Not that Frig was any great shakes. What had to be Vickers worst loss was the beating he took from Brad Maxwell. Not that there's anything wrong with that, Maxwell was a great fighter.

Ken Belanger vs. Bob Probert March 25, 1999.

Belanger mauls Probert. Belanger is aggressive in this one. He starts off throwing 8 lefts in which 5 or 6 land. I think Probert is stunned by the assault from Belanger. Belanger switches to the rights throw about 6 with 3 or 4 of them landing. Probert is ducking to avoid the punches then Belanger switches back to the left and continues to throw at a furious pace landing some nice upper cuts. Then Belanger get Proberts jersey partially over his head. The linesman come in to separate the two combatants and Probert throws one or two punches. This is a clear and dominating win by Belanger.

It was a great showing for Parker but I don't think it he beat Kimble unless you count the takedown.

I was at this game and what a disappointing showing from probie. My buddy and I were pretty much waiting for this fight to happen. Give probert credit-he had no problem giving the young guns their shot. But what a poor performance from probie. Belanger just took the fight to probie, switched hands and basically pitched a shutout. This may go down as one of probert's worst years. A couple of one sided losses to Brashear, getting dropped by morrisette(sp?) and this fight against Belanger. It made me think the end was near. He rebounded like a true champ the following year though.

Missed this thread earlier. It was nice to see Johnny's picture of Ferguson bleeding, since I can recall reading an interview with him in which Ferguson gloated about how his opponents used to bleed so often after fighting him.

He said in the interview: "I always used to wonder why they bleed so much, I guess it was because of my knuckles. I always had big knuckles."

Tom K was all guts but hasn't won a whole lot. Caught him good there though!
I hadn't seen the Simon fight before, thanks. Looks like he got caught early!

The best was the goddamn Rangers yearbook that year after year would write as part of Vickers bio that the league gave him a wide berth. In other words the league showed great respect and he got loads of room on the ice! I used to shake my head and think look at this bullsh*t and it was there year after year!
I think Vickers claimed that Maxwell surprised him in being a lefty but the reality was that the fire was not in Vickers tank! He went to the Vic Hadfield school of lets hit them with my wallet and he also went from being a 30-40 goal man to a 19-22 goal man!
It was another in a long line of Rangers fat cat moments!
The best also was how every time the Rangers played the Flyers, Gene (ZERO MOSTEL) Hart would whine and cry about Vickers being the 1973 Rookie of the Year instead of Bill (Greg Louganis) Barber. I would tell ole Gene to fuc* off and give it a rest and go eat another Tasty Kake product!
Gene Hart with his up to the second penalty minute updates and saying that Referee Dave Newell needed a Dictaphone with him to call out the penalties during another bench clearing brawl!

Read through the thread and might of missed the fight being mentioned:

Kimble v. Crowder. When Kimble took care of Crowder (I liked Crowder but I can't say it was the jersey, a fight is a fight until the end) it was at Crowder's peak. It was also the reason why St Louis traded for him as they thought he could take on Probert... and we all know how that worked out.

You could put a few Godard fights in here as he seemed to fight down to his opponents level... I remember being pissed when Konopka took him on and he looked disinterested... and the Stock fight still has me scratching my head.

McKenzie beating Twist put him on the map. That was his coming out party in a sense.

Adam Burish vs Nystrom. Now Nystrom was never the toughest but he was game and the fact Burish actually beat someone convincngly let along KO him i didn't believe it. I was at work and my buddy said ko and burish and i figured he got the worst of it but he didn't.
