Donald Brashear - The Career
I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time and with this being one of the more eventful seasons in terms of negatives for Brash, (losing his share of the crown, getting dropped by Doull, etc.) I thought that now might be a good time. Below you will find a thorough synopsis of Brashear's fighting career. The results are listed by opponent and by date in alphabetical and time order. All of his wins, losses, and draws have been noted except for a couple that I wasn't able to find on tape, I listed them in italics - hopefully someone can help us figure out the results of those scraps. I figured that we can use this as a possible resource in the future as well, I will try and update it as often as possible.
One thing to note - for the sake of things, I didn't include preseason fights as I know that some people don't use them to tabulate rankings and other figures. There is a list of notable preseason fights at the bottom. I included the playoffs only because I would probably catch crap if I didn't include the Domi fight from '02. I also didn’t include fights in which Brashear jumped his opponent and only one guy received a fighting major or vice-versa – example: Kasparaitis, Laperriere. pretty impressive in my book. The point of this thread was to shed some new light on the man who is most likely the most hated and controversial fighter to ever step foot in the NHL. Through all of the negative comments about his fighting style, his personality, and the way he conducts himself on and off the ice, there is no denying that Brashear should and will go down in history as one of the greatest ever. His fight card is stocked with premiere heavyweight fighters from three different generations. He has held his own with just about every single one of his opponents- garnering victories over most. Brashear's winning percentage is among the best in history. He has shown a perfect mix of power, speed, and strength that overwhelmed opponents for the last 12 seasons. Even though he may be considered a boring fighter in the long run, there is no denying that his strategy was an effective one and he was an extremely skilled fighter. With Domi, Twist, and the other new generation fighters climbing the all-time rankings at a rapid pace, there is no doubt that Brashear will be right up there with them. In all honesty, it is very possible he may even crack the top 10. Last edited by jayc948; 10-01-2010 at 06:54 PM. |

Good job there JayC, I myself include preseason fights in the ranking process, after all a fight is a fight.
There is no denying Brashear's career record and the jury is stil out on where to place him, I'm also sure he will creep into some peoples top 10 lists when he is done but we may never get to witness the 'decline' with this guy if he never fights again, he just seems so invisible in games on most nights but his last 10 years have been good to him, like him or want to hurt him Brashear is one of the best alltime IMO.

Great post, really nice recap. I'm not going to judge Brashear and what he has done. A few things:
Simon - tkO'ed Brash in Juniors or the AHL, worth nothing I think. I thought Marshment fought Brashear more than one time. The one fight 2002 maybe I'm thinking of Brash basically bailed out, while in the box Brash was talking and Marshment was like WTF, I gave you a shot on the ice. I don't know which McCarthy fight it was but Brash basically ran away from Sandy. They locked up for a few punches seperated and Brash basically ran behind the ref. |

I will also add that if Brashear becomes a speedbag in the next few years like alot of guys do when they get older, it will definitely hurt his chances of being top10 alltime, his stock would plummet quickly with three or four good beatings.

guess i was wrong
First off, another GREAT POST, exactly the reason we hockey fight freaks come to this site. Really, thanks much, i appreciate the time and effort it must have taken. Ever since i submitted my top twenty, i had mentioned that i dont have the footage to know if or where the toughest guys in the post probert era should slot in. In my opinion this group includes brashear, twist, simon, mcarthy and grimson. Somehow i thought brashear was much less successful in his first couple of seasons in montreal and didnt really establish himself as a force until his tenure with the canucks. (kind of like the same impression i know is correct about rob ray). I had no idea he was that good throughout his whole nhl stay. Didn't realize he had fought huard and mackenzie (2 of my faves- at least one beat him). Hate him or hate him, this post illustrates why we have to give him his due. Again, great job-preciate it my man!

Great recap Jayc. All hating aside, Brash will most definately be top 10 of all time once he retires.
Great card, and great results.

Great Job Jayc
Like him or not, the guy wins fights!!! BRASH does not fight for public opinion, he fights to win. The results are pretty impressive.
Most of his losses were from his early days, especially with Probie and Kocur, NO SHAME THERE!!! I would have to rate him as a potential TOP TEN. His style is not captivating, which hurts him when your matching him up with the PROBIE, TWIST and BROWN, but the end results speak for its self. My one question with regards to potentially being in the top 10 all time is DO NHL players fear him? Yes he is an excellent fighter. BUT DO THEY FEAR HIM? I do not think he has that persona that PROBIE, TWIST and BROWN had.

Brashear has a good shot at all time Top 10 when he hangs them up. Top 5 may be a stretch IMO. A very good list the only fight a saw missing if the playoffs are included was when Brash fought Jay Miller in his first season in Montreal the first fight I saw Brashear in. Unless my memory is failing they fought atleast once in that series. I thought he may have fought Byers as well in that series. Anyone know for sure ??
