THE CLASS OF '78 : Was there a tougher year?

There might've been , but looking through the 78 draft: WOW !!

BEHN WILSON
LARRY PLAYFAIR
AL SECORD
CURT FRASER
PAUL MULVEY
GLEN COCHRANE
CHRIS NILAN ( PICKED 231 ST )

Almost all are in my top 50 (Mulvey didn't last long enough- but had the tools for sure)

I'm not including Ray Markham, or Doug Lecuyer..who could fight but wouldn't crack the top 100 !!

What are some of the best years for you guys ??

83 was pretty good:

BOB PROBERT
JOEY KOCUR
STU GRIMSON
RICK TOCCHET

HM : Cam Neely don't see him in a top 50 but tough

Tough call, but you didn't mention JOHN KORDIC on 83. Boy would this have been a great battle royal!

Weird it says on Hockey database
he went #78 but when I went to that number he's nowhere to be found. I just went to the 83 draft and didn't see him. But we should add him.

1985 gave us;

Stu Grimson
Wendel Clark
Shane Churla
Ken Baumgartner
Rudy Poeschek
Dave Manson
Randy McKay
Herb Raglan.

1980 gave us;

Dave Richter
Jay Miller
Bob McGill
Basil McRae
Kevin McClelland.

And that infamous Torontonian who was the first player ever drafted out of a Canadian High School......Paul Higgins!!

I noticed that the luck bastid Perry Anderson played exactly 400 games, making him eligible for the NHL pension.

This was the the first year I thought of, besides '83, as far as modern league-leading fighters and grinders go. Nolan went insane in his first couple of years, until he was told that a #1 pick doesn't need to do all of his own fighting. The rest here, well the rest.. I mean, just look at their fight cards, they speak volumes. To be honest, I really think these guys kept ESPN2 afloat.

Just so no one rules out 1988...

19. Francois Leroux
27. Tie Domi
40. Link Gaetz
66. Darin Kimble
97. Rob Ray
177. Tony Twist

That's about it as far as HWs go, but that's quite a sextet to be feared. Plus you had physical team-first captains like Rob Blake, Mark Recchi, and Trevor Linden drafted that year.
