Chicago Black Hawks at Toronto Maple Leafs 3/19/1966
A little homage to how the Chicago Blackhawks used to spell their name in the title, and I admit - this is for Roger and any memories he can give us.
Early in the game we have a roughing penalties between Pierre Pilote and Larry Hillman:
Later on, a mess of a fight between Doug Mohns and Kent Douglas. I know some of the younger guys won't get that this is how fighting was - but they were really trying to get at each other. There was no tapping of the head/butt after this was done. No code, nothing. This was hockey in the 1960s. Vote: Doug Mohns vs Kent Douglas Mar 19, 1966

A oft-used phrase, but that truly was 'old time hockey'. A delight to watch, thanks!
Fast-forward some 46 years, the first clip is 5 each for fighting without a doubt. Youre talking a match penalty and suspension for Kent Douglas in that second clip.

VF,
Thanks for the memories, I appreciate your putting these clips up for me and all the old timers to enjoy. Believe me, they do bring back some sweet memories. Ironically, when this game was played, I was out of the country. I missed almost 5 seasons in the mid to late 60’s. So, seeing some of the fights from games I missed is especially nice. Pierre Pilote is one of my all time favorite players. I was at the United Center when the number 3 sweater was retired., in honor of Mr. Pilote and Keith Magnuson. Mr. Pilote was there along with the Magnuson family and it was quite a moving experience. A question for you VF. Are you sure that was Larry Hillman? If I am not mistaken, Mike Walton wore the 16 sweater for Toronto in the mid 60’s to early 70’s. I saw him wear that number in 1969-71 seasons. Either way, neither Hillman or Walton were known as ferocious fighters. Can’t explain Mr. Pilote’s wanting no part of the fellow in the 16 sweater.
