Bruise Brothers ?

There are some who consider Probert & Kocur
to be the 2 all-time greatest fighters. And
I was trying to figure out how many players
have the distinction of beating both men
and the only person that I could think of
off-hand is Curt Fraser.

Are there any others?

After thinking it through, I don't think there was anybody else besides Fraser. Coxe came close having beat Kocur and having a draw and a loss to Probert. McGill had atleast one draw with Probert, and managed to drop Kocur.

I think McGill edged Probie once and no doubt beat Kocur. Toughie.

I suppose I'd have to go back and view the fights, but I don't ever recall McGill edging out Probie.

Yeah, he had an eary edge with him. Haven't seen it in years, but I recall a slight win for McGill.

Just goes to show you how friggin' underrated this guy was...I put him right up there with a guy like Bobby Nystrom.

Dave Semenko was beating Probert before Gallant jumped in as third man. Ya sammy jumped him in that fight, but these things happen. Now it has been said several times that Semenko dropped Kocur in a game. He supposedly hit him before Kocur was ready, or what have you. But I've heard it from several other people that he dropped him. So I'm reaching on these ones, but just responding to the question.

Fraser rarely gets mentioned on any fight-sites...I'm assuming because he was a west-coaster and I've been trying to track down fraser footage for a while now...this guy is SEVERELY underrated IMO...

I don't think Fraser won the Kocur bout.I know Fraser landed more of those short shots in the beginning, but Kocur dropped him at the end, although it wasn't a solid shot. I say Kocur got at the very least a draw for ending the fight by dropping Fraser.

Peacemaker and I totally agree that Fraser
was very underrated and unfortunately I
only have about 25 mins worth of Fraser
footage. Did you happen to see the
Nystrom-Fraser fight? I remember seeing
a picture of the fight in the paper the next
day and read that it was a classic. Though
I never heard an eye witness account of it
and for some reason footage of the fight
seems nowhere to be found.

Turnash : I've watched the Fraser-Kocur
fight a few times in the past and from the
camera angle it's kind of hard to tell if it
was a punch that put Fraser down though
you very well could be right and I would
have to watch it again. I recall thinking
that Harold Snepsts had dropped Kocur
though after watching the fight a few times
you could see that it was'nt a punch but
more of a slip on Kocur's part after
attempting to land a bomb.

Nighthawk,
Agreed on the Snepst, the call was actually correct,Kocur landed a few then fell. The Fraser,I just watched again, and will go with Kocur landing one high on Fraser's head, following thru with his elbow dropping Fraser.

In my opinion Craig Coxe edged a win over Probie in their first NHL fight and then two years later Coxe dropped Kocur.

Tiger Williams lists Curt Fraiser as one of his 5 all time tough guys.

Can't recall all of them off hand

(Frasier, Probert, Shultz, .....)

I'm the only guy who has Fraser in my top 10 alltime list, he wasted Probert with short right hands one night in the Joe and he had more than one fight with Kocur that was very close to judge.Fraser at 195 is in my top 3 alltime pound for pound.

Regarding the Fraser - Nystrom fight, apparently Tony Twist has a copy of that fight, so someone shake the gorilla down for it.

Fraser could bench press 400 pounds in his prime too, monster strong for his size.

Regarding McGill beating Probert, i'll tell you right now there isnt a bigger McGill fan ANYWHERE than myself and maybe i'm missing a fight but the closest i ever saw him to beating big Bob was the untelevised game at MLG in '86 in the infamous head butting incident, they fought for no less than 12 minutes and it actually looked like McGill was going to start punching Probert again when the helmetted Probie butted the bucketless McGill knocking him silly. Best brawl ive EVER seen.
