In all fairness to Bob Probert, I never really saw him in his prime. I do remember him as a little kid, when he was in Chicago and hearing my dad say "That guy is a shell of the guy he used to be, as he was a monster in Detroit, possibly the most feared fighter in NHL history", and just not believing it based on what I saw in Chicago.

Most of what I know of him (other than YouTube videos) is that his drug abuse was a major issue, but something you hear about in the NHL allot. I let that influence my opinion on him. Doing some research, I found out there was allot more to him than that.

Brashear I saw in his prime and loved how he was just a lunatic some nights.

My assessment and comments about Bob Probert were off base and completely unwarranted, as I made the cardinal mistake of thinking rumor and innuendo were the truth.

I apologized whole heartedly and thank guys like MikeB for setting me straight.

That was a very classy move on your part, CM. It is rare that we have someone step up and say what you just said. Most times we see a thread degenerate into arguing and personal jabs. I think it's refreshing to see this kind of attitude on this board. I have always said that i have learned a lot since I joined up here. I feel that everyone can learn something new about their favorite tough guys when they venture into RW. We have so many great knowledgable guys who drop gold on an almost daily basis around here-everyone can learn from them.

Probert said Brashear was a big motivation for him. People can take it how they want, but like BBBB said, that means something. He hated Brashear, so did a lot of players. Nothing for me to be upset about in that article.

Brashear beat your favorite fighter. Undisputed top 5 all time.

Those were my thoughts also, Brash had a way of making people not like him but his fighting technique, strength, and skill had even the very best thinking about him, even in the off season! That is quite telling about the how he affected the league, I'm sure Probert wasn't the only one thinking about him.

It's funny, I've said the exact same things about Brashear and been hassled for it but Probert said those same things in his book. I feel some redemption.

Yes?

Looked like a pretty solid draw, Huggy Bear doing his usual. I'm sure Donald got the dreaded "edge" in that fight and thus another notch on his belt whn he didn't deserve it.

I like this fight against Belak a lot better-

Wade Belak KOs Donald Brashear 03 /10 /09 -...
